Impatiently waiting for genetic test results

Hi there,

This is more a vent than anything else. I had my genetic test done back in early November and still waiting on results.
How long did they take for others? The genetic councilor did say they were taking up to 3 months and that they would label them as urgent and now that COVID is running rampant I feel there will be an even longer delay :( I've finished my chemotherapy and had my lumpectomy 3 weeks ago. I need my results before I decide what comes next.
On a side note, I am also frustrated that my oncologist took so long to do the referral, which has contributed to this delay in results. He doesn't see the benefit in having a mastectomy if I have the mutation (my tumor is/was TNBC) so it wasn't considered a priority to him. I had to remind him almost weekly that I wanted the referral.
OK, vent over.

  • @colthul Sorry to read you have waited so long. The wait for this test is so stressful!!!
The whole procedure is massive!!  ALL the paperwork, working out if you were eligible, the insurance, the meeting with the councillor, the blood test & then the wait. My test was free as I had close family history.
I had my genetic test done on 30th Jan 2018 & by 21st feb, I was booked in for my first rad treatment so I would have got my results just before then. My test results were "rushed through" as my rad onc was waiting on the results so he could plan whether to go ahead with my treatment.
Covid has been blamed for many things being slowed so it wouldnt surprise me if it was to be blamed for your long wait. This must be killing you as i remember the wait for this result being very hard for me as the result may have effected may treatment plan/surgery moving forward. Love & strength. xx
  • my oncologist ordered mine i didn’t  get the results till i saw her 3 months later
that wad before omricon variant reated its ugly head delta wad just slowing down
so i got in between the rush for testing .
  • Testing was free due to my tumor being TNBC so there is no invoice. I might try emailing the genetic councilor and see if she can chase it up.
  • Hmmm .... You should have received a invoice to pay, which will have their details?

if you are up to it - Agitate - or just email them xx

Ours was the pathology slides ..... they also sent his 2010 ones as well as 2021 ..... the old ones took a while to track down!
  • In Australia, somewhere in Victoria apparently. Mine was just a blood test.
  • Is it being processed in Australia or overseas?   Hubby's took some time - about 2 months, as the actual tissue had to be sent to the USA for testing .....

The waiting really sucks.   All the best - hope you get the results soon xx
