Immunotherapy is the hope of the future for BC .... Sunday Paper yesterday - ask your Onc about it

Immunotherapy is the real hope for the future for fighting Breast Cancer ..... there has been great success with Lung Cancer & Melanomas & it is just a matter of time before one is found that effectively combats BC.

Garvan Institute is one of the Labs that does Genome Sequencing and Ecotyping ...... ask about it when you see your surgeon, regarding your pathology tests ..... it may cost a bit - but you may get a better chance at beating it, too.

Eventually, Genome sequencing will become as 'regular' as blood tests ...... whilst 'cure' rates are currently less than 10% for BC - it is only time before these rates improve.  Overseas, Keytruda is now being used on some Stage 4 & Triple Negative Breast Cancer patients ..... fingers crossed it is approved for use in Australia soon too.  There may even be trials going on right now!

Also a bit More info on it here:

  • Interesting @arpie. This article relates to ecotyping only (which seems to be classifying cells when looked at under the microscope). I will be interested to see how useful this is in the longer term. I am certainly a big supporter of gene sequencing and the trouble at the moment is there are not enough targeted drugs available for certain mutations. I think the immunotherapy picture is very complicated for breast cancer and that it will only be useful in a small group of women. You can read above that it is only useful in 1 of the 8 ecotypes. The problem seems to be that breast cancer isn't as immunogenic as other cancers. But certainly an interesting area to follow. Thanks again.
