Imaging Charges

So I had an MRI done that was bulked billed at Monash Clayton. Received a disk. The Dr wants the films as doesn’t trust the disk opening at time of surgery.  So now I pay $150 for films!  Not to mention the run around to pick the damn things up. Grrrrr

  • I discovered that there are several places that bulk bill. Due to them having a full license to operate.  Not all imaging places have a full license some only part licensed so charge more. So I shop around. You don’t have to go to the imaging place on the referral. The imaging places will take any referral.

I was sent there so I could get bulk billed but they now charge extra for the films it seems as opposed to the free disk which may not open on the Dr’s computer unless he has an account with the imaging provider and can log into their portal to view the scans online.  But not all Dr’s can do that either as they are not all computer savvy they tell me! Lol
  • @Harvey1903 @beccabecca I believe there's a certain number of prerequisites that you have to meet to get a bulk billed one. Kind of like a points system. I discussed getting an MRI with my breast surgeon at one point. He looked at his computer for a bit and said I almost qualified but just fell short.

    Try this link:  https://canceraustralia.gov.au/clinical-best-practice/breast-cancer/screening-and-early-detection/mri-high-risk-women
  • Consider yourself lucky, I had my MRI at MIA Clayton, cost me nearly $500! it's rare to get an MRI bulk billed.
  • Just paid $500 for MRI - got a disk for BS.  Nothing bulk billed   I was referred by BS.  Why do some people get bulk billed and others not?

  • I don't  really blame him I had my ultrasound put on a disc and it wouldn't open when it was needed, luckily it wasn't for surgery.
  • Lucky they bulk billed the MRI.  The cost of these is ridiculous.  Films must be expensive to print out hug?  The whole out of pockets with these scans is ridiculous.  Grrrr!
