I'm thinking of not doing hormone therapy

Oh yes I have cut down my drinking too a little. I would stop drinking if they could prove it was the reason I got breast cancer, but there is no proof, so I will just continue to do what I want in moderation ofcourse. 

Yes ur movement will get better once the drain is out! :) Under the arm will feel normal within a few weeks. its because they played around in ur armpit for lymph nodes so its still a little sleepy. lol. keep up with ur excercises and make sure u go for a walk everyday (and swing ur arms when u walk)

My movement is getting better, and I'm really hoping once I get the drainage out that will improve even more.  The numb sensations around my armpit are bothering me a little, but I think this is also alot to do with the drain. The pecotoral muscle is going to take some work, but its not hurting it just feels a bit scary to stretch.

Yes I really look forward to when all of this has faded a bit into the past.  For some reason I feel like I can let it go and I wont worry about it too much (I hope thats the case).  I just plan to live healthily which in general I do anyway, but maybe I will have a few less wines in future.

 

Yeah I had the drain tube in for 2 weeks. that was a pretty hard time. but yes it will improve for u. :) oh yes the solid feeling. it was like carrying around a rock on my chest for 5 months when i had the tissue expanders in. lol. so atleast u dont have to go thru feeling that way. ur breast will drop and shape over the next 3 months and after a few weeks u can start massaging it and the sensation should feel better. but dont try that now, u need to heal. 

How is your arm movement going? 

Yes I 'should' be on the home stretch now :) Never thought it would take this long. But the end result should be awesome... :) Looking forward to that day... 

Hi, I had the reconstruction and mastectomy all at the same time and was lucky enough to be able to go straight to the final implant. I see the Onc Monday week and find out more then. Yes I still have a drainage tube in and dressings on so I'm hoping when all that comes out I will start to have more feeling. That horrible nerve ending pain is getting less, yay! The first 2 nights after the op were the hardest. I really felt like I had this huge boob that felt so solid. I hadn't thought at all about how it would feel, just about how it might look. So how it felt was the biggest shock, but for me anyway, i am relieved that I could have the reconstruction, and have no regrets. It sounds like your almost there with your reconstruction, I hope it all continues to go well, kasturi

As for your masectomy question. I too find the sensation different. I had my masectomy in April 2011 and straight away followed by a tissue expander, now silicone implant. so its hard to know what feelings are from what. It takes alot of getting use to, some discomfort and pain along the way. But it is getting better as time goes on. my reconstruction isnt final yet, more surgery to come. 

What kind of reconstruction did u have?

Hello, thank you for your reply.  I hadn't heard that my hormornes could go crazy because of the masectomy so that is a good tip off.

If I am told that the hormone treatment is only going to give me an extra 1% chance then I also wont do the treatment and this is the kind of statistic I want to know.  I will try to get the oncologist to be specific and I might get a second opinion too.

I think because of my age even if I end taking the hormone treatment I'm not going to worry about fertility treatment, realistically for me it is unlikely that I will end up having a child.  It was something I was coming to terms with before the diagnosis, but I will be able to get to grips with this.

I had a quick read of your profile (I hope that is ok not sure about etiquette on these sites) and I saw you had a masectomy too, how are you finding it.  I found it really strange at first the sensation thing but I am starting to get a bit more used to it now.  Thanks again

I will be taking hormone therapy, as I do not want to look back in years to come and say I wish I did  if cancer returns.  But... I did have some in lymph nodes but think I would have this decision anyhow.

Hi Blue Amber, i probably cant help you as i am taking  hormone treatment, but there are plenty of women on hear that will. One of the ladies that comes to mind is  TonyaM  who stopped taking hormone treatment  early on in her treatment quite a few years ago. Her journey is very interesting and I am sure she would not mind if you contacted her on here.   Good luck with it all
