I'm back!

HI everyone

Just to let you know that I'm finally on the road to recovery.

After numerous tests the Hospital finally diagnosed me with Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)which is a rare autoimmune disorder.

My first admission (on the Aust Day weekend) was because of 41 Deg+ temps which lasted for over a week. No one could figure out what virus it was, so they just keep pumping me with antibotics and fluids until the temps resolved and I could be discharged.

Sent home, then three days later, really high temp and I'm as pale as a ghost. It was a Tuesday and I was going to my GP's to get a certificate to cover my days off and when I walked into his office (this is the GP who's seen me all the way thru the BC journey and diagnosed me with BC) he took one look at me and said I wasn't going to work but straight to the hospital as I looked the worst he'd ever seen me! Including Chemo days!

Turned out when I was admitted I was not only neutropenic, but I had a platlet level of 1 - normal is between 250 - 500.

So I was isolated and had 8 transfusions in the end.

Couldn't wait to get home as I ended up back in the Cancer ward (which was terrible as they put me in a room with 3 other men who were all DNR and on respirators - SOOO inappropriate).....

So home, one week to recover and I've slowly returned to work. I'm certainly now broke as I had no leave to cover for this month and a bit I had off but I'm glad it's over.

Now I have to be very careful as this is a chronic condition and i have to be aware of the symptoms - bleeding in the mouth, ulcers and a rash of tiny blisters which indicates it's back and I would need to be rushed in to hospital again. Hopefully it won't happen but it's early days.

Oddly enough it's affected my plans for a holiday which I hoped to take my hubby on as I'm not supposed to fly for more than 4 hours and I had booked the Cook Islands. No only was it too far (flying time) but also the medical care may not be right should something happen.

So I've changed it to Palm Cove now and somehow I have to try to save up $3000 without hubby knowing! God knows how I'm going to do that but I'll ask the universe and hope it will answer me.

So enough about me....now to all of you.....

I'm sure you all must have some updates for each other and we'd love to hear them so please post.

I was looking at dates for a nice luncheon to see if we can all get together and since Easter is VERY early this year I was thinking we could try for mid - late April.

I shall send out an invite to you all.
