I hate the mirror

Some days I find it so hard looking in the mirror. I just can't stand the way I look. My hair has started to come back, I don't bother with scarves or wigs anymore, too hot with my flushes and just plain uncomfortable. I'm fat bald and ugly! I never thought I was very attractive before bc now i would love to have the old me back. I feel like bc has aged me,

  • You are so beautiful.  I have always thought that from your pic.  Just because your body has changed you are still in there.  I was always trying to change my self and being envious of others who were "more pretty".  Hell no now,  I am me and that's it.  It has taken me nearly 8 months to lose 2 kilos. (only because I am so busy and don't have time to eat meals - renovating!!!)   I went for my GP Health Plan update a couple of days ago and was thinking that the nurse would "go off" at this slow weight loss. She was really pleased as she said that the average person put this much weight on each year.  When you are on treatment it is so unnatural so our bodies react in ways we don't like.  Time, time, time - anyway it is doesn't happen it doesn't matter.  We are all still who we are no matter what.  Just put on your best smile - it sure helps me.  Just yesterday I saw a young woman with a shaved head - no scarf or hat - and I thought Yeh good on you.  One thing Life has taught me is not to judge anyone as I don't know what path they have just travelled.  If only everyone was aware of this.  Annie is correct.  We are all so strong from our BC experience and a strong woman is very sexy!!! • I am going thru the same emotions...unfortunately my treatment doesn't stop and i am wondering just when the weight gain might at least slow down...i have put myself on healthy eating plan (always ate healthy but too many bics & cakes show up all the time!!)..trying to resist the urge to snack on unhealthy stuff!!  I started seeing a new counsellor the other day and i have another session booked in for a couple of weeks time and this will be the major issue we will be talking about...i can cope with the physical side effects (tummy upsets, hair loss i am used to now numb toes/feet), but the way my appearance has changed because of the extra weight is really getting me down..I have gained 26 kg over the last 2 1/2 yrs and i have never been this heavy, ever...i can truly understand :(

Look forward to the end of treatment, allow some "me" recovery time and u  will have the chance to return to some kind of normal (altho it may not be a 'new' normal)..it CAN be better

Good luck to us all suffering with these issues

    Sam  :)

  • Hang in there!  You are still beautiful!  I know how you feel but don't be too hard on yourself. You have been through a lot and I know at times you feel like crap to put it mildly but it does pass. I too feel as if I have aged 10 years. I used to colour my hair brown ( my natural colour before going grey!) I'm now almost white! the grey is coming back though. I not sure if I will colour it again. It is also very straight - something I'm not used to. But this is the new me. I have my health and hopefully a good follow up next Friday when I see my surgeon.

Take care dear lady and chin up. We all know what you are going through and are here for you. I can relate to the hot flushes too. Mine are more frequent and draining!

    Thinking of you ........
