How long is to long to wait for radiation

Hi , it will be 10 weeks from my lumpectomy and SNB  to see the oncologist , is the radiation still effective considering it will probably be 12 weeks to start? And I worry that it will be over 6 months before I start Tamifoxen and what if another cancer has started to grow?

  • Hi Lyndajma

I was going to ask the same question, and literally stumbled on your post. I had my lumpectomy only a week ago and was told I need radiation, chemo and hormone therapies. I was led to believe I would hear from the oncology team this week but have since learned it is a waiting game and I am not a patient person. It will be our 40th wedding anniversary in July and we have planned a trip to Europe, to celebrate in Paris on the day. This, of course, was all arranged before I was diagnosed. So although my surgeon said it should be the last thing I need to be worrying about right now, I do worry, along with the thought that this aggressive b...... is going to take root again while we wait. So I think I know what you are feeling however, I have no words of wisdom for you. Perhaps we just need to trust the medicos to get it right.

I wish you all the best.

  • Hi there

Unfortunately we would like it to get on with the treatment, get another scan and find that it all worked, but I think our bodies need time to heal.  Hopefully you trust your medical team, I didn't start tamoxifen until this month after chemo and radiation and my lumpectomy was June last year.

I still don't ask enough questions, write them all down and ask the oncologist when you see him next.  Hopefully he will give you answers so you can concentrate on the treatment and not worry so much.  In the meantime, could you contact the breast care nurse - they usually have so much knowledge.

    All the best, Kari
