Hiccups and pain

i don’t know if anyone else got this during and after treatment but here goes
During treatment didn’t question the reflux or indigestion easy to put down to the chemo but during the radiation I would come away with the hiccups which got a bit painful and feeling my food go down, as I was having my sternum radiated a few extra bits couldn’t be avoided etc I  just took it as part of the side effects, though I did mention the hiccups to the radiation oncologist. And he had never heard of it  thoughts were I could be swallowing air
I just had my 2year gastrointestinal check and what do you know I have a small hiatus hernia. And a new word for me mildly erythematous mucosa in the stomach I am awaiting results.
I am different that’s for sure

  • Howdy @Zoffiel it makes sense that the diaphragm would get a bit upset seeing your holding your breath for what seems like for ever and so many times. I used to try count how many times but would always loose track. If there was going to be a weak spot that would be it. I see oncologist on 18 dec. (my 6 month check) so she can pass the info on.
    The Joys of it all.
  • Nothing like one with the lot, @cranky_granny !  We should start a separate  category; The Side Effects That Aren't Side Effects Except That They Appear to be Side Effects

I have a small hiatus hernia but given my propensity to develop all manner of ridiculous post surgical complications I'm leaving it alone. It does, on occasions, give me a strange sensation that feels like I want to swallow when I don't need to. Odd. But not connected to my treatment. Probably. So I'm told. It must be just a coincidence.

It's interesting how many medicos can believe in coincidences. Mainly when it is convenient for them to do so.

  • Hi @LMK74 so im not alone, same as you got my collar bone zapped armpit chest bone and the boob but finished in July. after the blisters and burns settled I have this lovely darkened area from my voice box down to just below the chest bone across to my shoulder and under the arm.  But all that has settled just stay out of the sun as much as I can. Don’t need it getting any darker.
My problem was the hiccups didn’t settle swallowing eased but still got heartburn pain all while eating and after. So my GP decided to get the gastro doc to check it at my normal scope.  At leased I have answers.
  • Hey @cranky_granny, I just finished six weeks of radiation 2 weeks ago. I got hiccups a lot but I also had radiation esophagitis as my neck was radiated too. I also noticed I burped lots too which I rarely do. All this Crap sucks.
