Hi all

Hi, I have just had a mammogram & ultra sound to investigate what I thought was an infection in my left breast. A week ago I went to bed with pain and thought I may have just pulled a muscle of something. I woke up the next morning with a red line down a vein on the outer side of my left breast. This worried me and the next day went to see a doctor, who thought it may be an infection, antibiotic given. This happened while on holidays in Melb. so after I came home I saw a local doctor who immediatly ordered the scans etc. I still have to take the antibiotics for a total of 18 days then go back for another ultra sound in three weeks, to rule out Paget's disease. I am staying positive and crossing my fingers that it is only mastitis or something, but at 57 and menopausal why would I have mastitis? The pain of infection has eased and I am left with a tingling feeling in the nipple with the sensation of it being pulled out slightly. Has anyone else had this happen?

  • Hi Deb, how are you getting on?  Still thinking about how you are doing and have you managed to secure an earlier appointment.  Cheers Kahu

  • Hi Kahu,I am phoning for an early appointment tomorrow, I am just not myself and I think we all say it will be OK and don't want to worry anyone or ourselves, but I have to go with my gut feeling, thanks for your concern. take care too Deb

  • I don't think you should wait either.  I was in the same place as only as recently as 30 Dec 2012.  And everything can change sooo quickly as it did for me.  Early detection is the mantra and for good reason.  Good luck & I will be thinking of you.

  • Thanks for getting back to me so quick. You don't think I should wait!   Iam in two minds now, I thought If I waited it may go away, is that being silly!   I will take your advise and get an earlier app. Thanks again, will let you know how I go. take care Deb

  • Hello Deb

Yes, something silmilar happened to me, and I think now I would have been more pro-active than I was. I was left waiting for nearly three months while the medicos decided that in fact I did have something more suspicious than an infection.

If you don't mind me saying, don't wait for the three weeks; ask for the ultrasound to be done earlier and maybe a fine needle biopsy.

If I have a similar scenario occur in the future I will be much more assertive, particularly now I know how the "system" works.

I am not unhappy with how I have been treated, I just know what I know about myself, and many other women on this site will attest to us knowing our bodies better than anyone else.

    All the best.
