Yes, something silmilar happened to me, and I think now I would have been more pro-active than I was. I was left waiting for nearly three months while the medicos decided that in fact I did have something more suspicious than an infection.
If you don't mind me saying, don't wait for the three weeks; ask for the ultrasound to be done earlier and maybe a fine needle biopsy.
If I have a similar scenario occur in the future I will be much more assertive, particularly now I know how the "system" works.
I am not unhappy with how I have been treated, I just know what I know about myself, and many other women on this site will attest to us knowing our bodies better than anyone else.
