Here We Go Again!

This time 2 weeks ago I was celebrating being given the all clear after having my 1yr check up since being treated for low grade breast cancer of the left breast in 2015.

A few days later however later I got the news the pathology results of the biopsy taken from the right breast had returned a positive result for cancer.

Whilst my specialist is confident this new primary tumor is small & low grade like the previous one in the other breast, for some reason I just can't help even feeling more worried & scared this time around.

As before, at this stage I'm booked in for a partial mastectomy & sentinel node biopsy on the 26th August & treatment will be Radiation therapy. 

My right breast has always been a source of concern - in the last 20yrs I've had 3 benign & 1 cancerous tumour removed from it. So I guess my expectation was that if there was going to be a recurrence, it would be in that one.

The fact that I was initially given the all clear now makes me wonder what else could be hiding in this left one!

So here we go again...

    I found the lump both times. Second time with great disbelief.

    Yes the original tumor was hormone positive.

    Hi Mum2JJ,

    Thank you so much for sharing your own recurrence experience. With the first diagnosis I discovered the lump myself so I had time to prepare myself for the possibility of it being something sinister. 

    Congratulations on being 5yrs clear - that's terrific :)

    That's a tough one to happen so soon after the all clear from the previous treatment. Was your original diagnosis a hormone positive cancer? All the best for the next part of the journey.

    Hi Mel, What a stinker!! So this time around you've got the drill down pat, except for having your gear packed up - can you concentrate on designing new pieces to add to your collection for when you're ready to start casting / modelling again?? A recuperative collection?? One notepad, pencil and wonderful imagination which I'm sure you would already have to highlight the beauty of the different metals you work with!! Wishing you clear margins, clear nodes and a team of good fairies for your packing and cleaning!! Let us know how you go!! All the best xx Cath

    I feel your pain. I had a second diagnosis (mine was recurrence ) 6 month s after all clear of first diagnosis. Such a shock and a worry. However hopefully like your Dr thinks it will be early and treatable. It's hard to take in when you really should be celebrating.  I am now 5 years clear of second diagnosis. 

    One thing is you know the drill, doesn't make it easy though. Sending you a huge hug.
