Herceptin Sub Cut Injection

Just wondering if anyone is having their Herceptin via injection?
i had my first of these on wed (previously via port iv), the needle stayed in my leg for 5 mins as they can only inject a ml a minute! It kinda stung for the first ml and then when the needle came out.
anyway a few hours later and I had a big white swelling on my leg, then yesterday after some light housework it hurt so much I couldn’t walk and where the white was previously it was now red.
today it hurt less but ached when I walked around and the red circle was still there so I popped into the nurses and they immediately said that it wasn’t a normal reaction, plus they said it is supposed to be on the medial thigh not the lateral thigh. Anyways now I just have to keep an eye on my temp in case it’s infected....
ill pop photos in the next comment
  • @kmakm how are you feeling after your surgery?
im a bit nervous of the surgery (it’ll be my first ever surgery) but at the same time looking forward to it so I can move past it. Looking forward to seeing my mum and for her to spend time with my girl and have someone do the cooking and cleaning for a change haha.
my Radiation is all booked in too I sorted that on Friday, I allocated who is doing my simulation session and designing my plan (not allowed to do it myself!) and sorted my appmt times for my days off (Work days I can just slip in inbetween patients as I’ll actually be rostered to that machine anyway)
  • How are you feeling with the surgery drawing nearer? Must be so good to see your mum again, but all mixed up with BC must be weird too. K xox
  • @lrb_03 awww thanks for thinking of me! Surgery is May 18. My mum arrives from England on the 15th to “look after me”. Going well otherwise just so tired all the time and my little girl has been unwell for the past 3 wks.
    how are you going?
  • Crikey, @JoeyLiz, that definitely doesn't look right. I was Her2 neg, so didn't have herceptin.
I don't know why, but I thought when it was an injection , it was subcutaneous?? From what you've just said, it's a 5ml injection? That's a lot to give, even IM, and that volume would be given in the glute, not thigh. Hope you don't end up with an infection.
I've been thinking about you lately, that your surgery must be getting mighty close. How are you going? Other than this, of course
