  • Hey Pammy, I had to have appointments with both the oncologist and radiation oncologist when I wasn't having either treatment just tamoxifen - but they both needed to see me and explain why I wasn't having either and answer any questions that I had. I was also told the day before surgery that I needed to go and have a hookwire inserted but I explained that I was having a mastectomy and therefore should not need one - they went back and checked on my paperwork to discover someone had made a note on it that related to someone else's surgery. I don't know if yours is a mistake but I am crossing fingers for you that it is. Big hugs. Xx
  • I got results which were grade 1 tumours both less than 1 cm no lymph node activity clear margins 10-80% positive PR and ER booked in for radiation oncology app on the 12th
then get this random call to see medical oncologist to discuss adjuvant chemo so I'm totally confused as to why I would need it
  • Hi there sometime the lines of treatment change. In the beginning I was told lumpectomy, radiation and then tablets. In the end I had 2 lumpectumies, chemo, with herceptin, then mastectomy with immediate reconstruction with tablets for 10 this dosen't mean this will happen to you but just saying sometimes things change. Believe me I was a mess and said some very big swear words to doctors. In the end you do what you have to do to get rid of the cancer. We are all here having gone through our own trip, one day at a time and write questions down now a you think of them xx
Crying is all part of the trip xxx
  • Sometimes the inititial conversations tell you one thing but after final pathology and a team discussion they may decide to offer something different. Do you have a breast care nurse you can  talk with? I got the phone call after surgery to say we've made your appointment with the oncologist. It may well be just a discussion about and be given options.

Adjuctive therapy means treatment alongside surgery.

It's upsetting but doesn't mean outcomes are worse. Write down questions you want to ask...things like what are the statistics with or without chemo etc. You can do this even if it means chemo, you are strong enough. Kath x
