Hardest Week Yet

So this is my first blog. I was diagonoised with stage 3 BC on the 22/10/2013.. 9 days before my 36th Birthday & The last week has been my hardest yet, both emotionally and physically. I had docetaxel for the first time last Tuesday (5th chemo session 1st for docetaxel ) and it knocked me for a six.  I ended up in hospital on the Sunday after my temp went through the roof and I was throwing up. I was in so much pain.. everything hurt SO BAD! Up until now I have stayed so strong but felt a little 'broken' this week. I didn't want anyone to ask if I was okay because I didn't want to burst into tears & completely break down.

Today has been my best day since chemo and my mind feels strong again. I CAN DO THIS!!!

  • So right about the box of chocolates haha! Yes I felt like a old women after docetaxel too! A really old lady lol. Took me two weeks to feel 'Okay" again! Just have to keep telling myself its not forever xx

  • Hi Mandy,

Stay Strong. I was told by one of the doctors that docetaxel shouldn't of been as bad as my last chemo drug so everyone reacts differently, you may not have the same or any side effects. Good Luck xx

  • Thanks so much for the replies! You have got me breathing a little easier now about my next lot.. I have 3 to go & was wondering how I was going to get through, after reading  some of your replies I am hoping the next ones wont be as bad. I did have an ocology massage a week after chemo and did find it helped with the pains in my lower back and legs.

  • Had my first docetaxol on 21/1 and it has knocked me for six as well. I got a throat infection which landed me in hospital for one night. The oncologist said I would feel like an old woman and she was so right. I just about got all the side effects that can happen, I'm hoping that treatment 5 and 6 are not as bad as the first. Every morning I wake up it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get:) but you are right, we can do this!  Take care,

    Hazel xx

  • I'm due Docetaxel soon and I have to say I'm petrified :( FEC hasn't really been too bad so I think I have been lulled into a false sense of security. Mandyxx
  • Thanks so much Lisa :) yes last week was hard it was my fifth chemo session, I had previously had Doxorubicin and Cyclophosphamide but seemed to be back to my normal self in about a week. Am hoping now docetaxel is in my system I won't find the next lot so hard?? Although at the moment they are unsure if I have reacted to it or the needle to boost your white bloods. Anyways 3 to go and I'm done with the chemo part if things, Yay!! :D Xx
  • Welcome Shani, sounds like you had a terrible first round with chemo but your attitude is fantastic and yes....YOU CAN DO THIS! It's not all doom and gloom. You will have yucky moments and then feel on top of the world. Make the most of the good moments when you can. I had docetaxel (3 treatments of that) and it is nasty but I found that it kept me down for about 3-4 days tops then I was ok. My body really started to adjust to it and I just worked around treatment day and days 3 to 5 in the cycle. Good luck Shani, you will find many wonderful, insightful and uplifting friends here xx Lisa
