Hello lovely network memberssooo they say not to shave my pit after axillary dissection but living in the Qld heat I can't bear to go au naturel...but after looking at the alternatives in the supermarket I don't know where to start. I was thinking of Veet or similar but after reading the packet I wondered if it's a good idea to put chemicals in that area. I am a wuss about waxing...any recommendations gratefully received. PS hope this is the right forum!

Hi Jailbirdstreet, I had waxing done within one month of node removal but my scar is in my breast fold. The beauty if that side being waxed is that you don't feel it because of it being numb. :smiley:

I shaved but had an assistant. I have very little hair though.

@Jailbirdstreet I have been waxing again after a 2 year break I honestly had very little hair growth...... on my clearance side she literally plucks 1 to 3 hairs out after 6wks on the other side normal waxing..... it dont feel either as I am numb... as long as they are aware of your surgeries and that they need to be gentle to start. it should be fine..... I didnt think my underarms hurt prior to surgery..... I have been a waxer for a long time but home waxing hurts...

agreed @socoda Only tried home waxing once that was enough :s .... but at the beautician I have no pain.My Joke to my beautician was that Dr chemo had decided I was to stop my appointments with her..... it took me 2 years to feel right to be waxed again but I have no problems.

my beautician was done out of her job for nearly 2 years, my hair is still sparse on my body.
Head is great but I go every 6-8wks for waxing pre chemo I went every 4-6 wks....

D'oh it is only reading your responses that I realise that this is all likely a moot point for the next few months as I start chemo on Monday so I expect it will all fall out. Thanks for the tips x

I also shave mine. I am very careful as no feeling on that side. I did use an electric shaver for a while but then went back to a regular razor. I have very little hair there anyway due to radiation.

I'm shaving mine and are just careful to be real gentle. Also have limited feeling.

I've gone back to shaving under my arm which had the nodes removed. But it feels weird and makes my stomach turn - the nerves are doing strange things in their attempt to reconnect! When I run the razor under my arm it's half numb but I actually feel it halfway down the inside of my arm! I'm not game to wax at this stage.
nothing like keeping things interesting haha

I get waxing at a Beautician who works at home, perfect and honestly so cheap, she's set up professionally but doesnt have the overheads. Beats every other alternative. Since Chemo LOL rarely need to, lots of hair didnt come back on my body LOL. Melinda xo
