Hi, I'm new at this, I had my first chemo (doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide) on 1/3/17 and was wondering how long it will take before I start to lose my hair?
If you have private health insurance it is worth checking with them as they may cover some of the cost of a wig. I wore mine when 'out' and scarves to chemo.
thank you ladies, that wig is fantastic and the hats look like they would have been a bit of fun. I'm looking forward to giving mine a go. I have one synthetic one similar to yours melclarity (except strawberry blond with blond streaks and one real hair one that is yet to be styled. Looks like a trip to the hairdresser in the next couple of days for a shave, and wig cut and style. I will also try to find a nice hat that fits ( I have a pinhead and even have to use a childs bicycle helmet!)
Thanks joolsmundy and girls for all your information. I was about to ask the same question. I'm up to day 17/had 3rd Taxol on Thursday. Hair came out in the shower this morning like I was starting to moult. My hair has felt "odd" for a couple of weeks. Scalp feels like ants and spiders running around on it which is the nerve endings. The other day it was like someone had tied the top with a very tight elastic in a ponytail. Today it feels like the hair is sitting on top of my head, like a hat! Crazy hey!!!! Thanks Brenda5 for your beach story because I wondered if that could happen. I've bought some scarves and turbans to use and I've got one in my bag. I'll go and see my hairdresser this week and get it sorted. So many different stories and experiences-thank you :) I appreciate reading them.
Kath! I loved it!! LOL it did start to fray at the ends but boy it got me through!! Im tempted sometimes to put it on to have a change from this short blonde but hey!! work in progress! yippee!
Shinywaywigs.com.au I bought a synthetic for around $300 the color to my natural was astounding, my hairdresser trimmed it around my face the way I used to wear it and honestly??? NOBODY could tell, over the course of time I bought 2 in total, best investment I made.
I had mine cut short in preparation and about 2 weeks after the first chemo I went for a walk on the beach on a windy day and came home almost bald lol. For the rest I just had a container beside me at my computer desk and I used to run my fingers through what was left and put anything lose in the container. For quite a while I managed to have just a smattering of whispy hair left. No way I was going to shave that little bit off. Eventually it fell out too. When it starts to grow back like babies hair, don't be surprised if every one wants to pat you on your head lol.
I wore scarves and hats as felt silly in my wig. I think mine was ill fitting. I've seen many that look great. I wanted a pake pink bob obe fir fun but they were sold out when I decided to buy it. I thought it might he fun. I had some really silly hats at home during winter. ..they cheered me up. People kept buying them for me.
