Ok, so I had my last chemo today and told my oncologist what surgeon said to me. Basically she said he's talking through his arse. Apparently my last ultrasound showed a vascular response. I said what does that mean. The blood supply to the cancer has stopped. She explained that tumors have their own blood vessels and they can see in the ultrasound there is no supply to it or some such thing. All to bloody technical all the jargon. She also said the pathology report after surgery is the only way they can tell if treatment worked. She said the surgeon had no business saying what he did. I guess they just forget you are an actual person rather than a slab of meat to chop up.
Does anybody else get sick of seeing the registrars only instead of your treating oncologist?. I get how busy they are but "really", at times I have felt they can't be arsed talking to me. I have felt the same with my breast care nurse, I would see her visiting several patients and having long chats and laughs but not coming to see how I'm doing. I'm a public patient so am not complaining seeing as it's free, but I guess I've felt at times a bit unsupported.
I'm glad chemo is finished with, now I'm thinking about upcoming mastectomy and scared, but normal to feel like that.
Thanks to all the wonderful women here and BCNA,for giving us all a place to share and support each other.
Biggest of hugs
Lisa xo
