Got my dates. Taking a deep breath.

Hi everyone. Have spent the day at the Mater getting Results from my mastectomy and the next step. All the nodes from my axillary clearance were negative thank goodness. There was a tiny bit of cancer in my breast tissue but nothing of concern. For now my cancer tumours have left the building. I am getting a port installed on the1st of November and chemo starts on the 6th. I'm having 3 rounds of FEC then weekly Taxol for 9 weeks. Then radiation and hormone treatment. I'm thinking of having a hysterectomy after treatment for a Bit of added insurance. Now I'm scared. Chemo terrifies me more than the surgery :-( but I know I have to do it.

  • Having a port is a breeze. I didn't have one with my first diagnosis and wish I did as my veins are trashed. Wish I did as I had its the second diagnosis and chemo was much easier as no issues with veins. I also had the relax pill. They told me if you are relaxed that it helps decrease side affects. I think it really helped. I felt ok anyway. Good luck. Paula :)
  • It's def the unknown.I was so unsure of how I would feel actually getting the chemo.Well I sat there with my husband, and there was another couple opposite us,and we struck up a conversation. We munched on tuna sandwiches, and bananas and cups of tea,and At the end of the 2 and a half hours(that's the length of time mine takes)we just walked out and went home like nothing had happened.I think I was thinking that something would happen to me straight away.I think that knowledge is power, and that is why I always turn to the ladies on here that have done it before me.cheers!
  • Thanks Robyn xxx that makes me feel a bit better. It's the unknown that is so scary i think.
  • Hi Jodie, remember how u thought u couldn't get thru the mastectomy, and now look at you! I am just a bit ahead of you, cause I had my first chemo 10 day's ago.Don't worry, seriously, cause I was terrified, and the ladies on here were right as usual;) I just take it one day at a time.I was tired for a couple of days,a bit nauseous, some skin rashes(nothing serious) and weird food cravings! It might change next round, but if it does,I will deal with it ONE DAY AT A TiME!,I have been eating well, walking every day,and resting when I feel like it.As my husband says,it's all about you at the moment;)lol Take care Jodie.xox
  • Hi viv xxx I'm terrified of chemo. They were wonderful today and have written up an abundance of medication plus a relaxant prior to each session to ensure I'm totally relaxed, but I'm still terrified :-(

  • Hi Jodie, all the best with your next step. Relief that your nodes were clear.

I am 2 weeks out from my Hysterectomy & ooperectomy. I am amazed at how well I am going. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Currently taking Tamoxifen and will switch over to Arimidex now that surgical menopause has happened.
