Hi out htere, well on my 3rd lot of anbtibiotics and finally have some relief from this nasty staph infection. Busy week saw medical oncolgist yesterday, I am going to be given the works, chemo, radotherapy and then hormone therapy...whooo hooo. Chemo starts friday week, 3 blocks of 3 drugs then 3 blocks of 1 drug (6 months) 2 morrow ct scan and echo then friday bone testing. Guarantee hair loss prabably all gone after 2nd dose, that is really scary, I know lots of people have been through it and are going through it but I am afraid I just kept telling myself it wasn't going to happen to me............what an ostrich. My delimma at the moment is whether to go back to work pre chemo or wait and see how the first dose goes..decisions, decisions. ok think I will wait as still getting over the infection and op at the moment need to build up a bit....glad that is out of the way, wasn't so hard after all. So it's all happening very fast & you're poor brain hasn't caught up yet. One day at a time girl. If you can afford it, don't go back to work. It would probably help to keep you mind off everything, but you don't want to overdo it. Fight this infection first. I'm sorry to hear that you have to have all three treatments. It's a bugger! There are some people out there that don't lose their hair, like me. Each time they put the icepack on my head while they administered the chemo & I've managed to keep enough hair to get by. People don't even know what I'm going through because I've still got some hair & I've put on weight & am looking well. Kept my eyebrows & eyelashes as well. So it's not all doom & gloom. I have my 5th round of chemo tomorrow & then only 1 to go!!! Keep us updated on your progress and good luck with your further tests. Take care, Wendy

Hi Jacqui, I'm glad that the antibiotics are now kicking in, I would advise waiting until you feel up to returning to work, as you need your strength. I have been off for 4 weeks now, post op and start chemo tomorrow. To be honest the thought of returning to work next week isn't my priority but I need to save some leave for when I have my mastectomy later in the year. I have to have 6 cycles, so will probably take 3 days off each time and work in between but it depends how I feel. I also have to have the works...chemo, radio and hormone tablets so we have a long road ahead, but I find by putting it into little compartments I cope best. I deal with a day at a time and try not to look too far ahead. I am apprehensive about chemo, but everyone is different so i will just wait to see how it affects me. I will let you know in a few days! Look after yourself x

Hi good luck for tomorrow, I would have been starting mine except for the jolly infection. Do you mind if I ask why you are having chemo before the mastectomy? and will you have the mastectomy before the radiotherapy? Do you know what drugs you are being given? and have they told you about hair loss? that is my main concern but I did make some enquiries today about wigs so feel a little less apprehensive knowing that I will be prepared. I think you are right I am just going to concentrate on the chemo day by day and see what happens, I am thinking after feeling so sick with the infection that chemo just might be a walk in the park (ha! ha!) You must be so pleased to be coming to the end of your chemo, how often do you have it?

Mine is every 4th Friday, guess that is all the body can cope with when they decide to use the strong stuff.
