Fluid in breast ?

a new day, a new side effect?
I'm 7 days into radiotherapy and last night I noticed my breast looks as if there's a bubble of air or fluid inside. It is distorting the shape of my breast and affects about a sixth of my breast. There's no redness or heat or pain.
Is this lymphoedema? Did the radiation cause it? Is it permanent? Will massage help, and if so what type of massage?
And final question- why does this always happen on Friday night or on a long weekend when all medicos are on the golf course?

  • It could be fluid, it could be a seroma. Once I got my persistent seroma under control and very little fluid remaining, it made it possible to feel there was a lump - I had a seroma within a seroma! Get it checked. Know exactly what you mean about Fridays - if it's not Fridays, it's Saturdays!!
  • Sorry this is happening to you. Hope you jabe soime answets really soon.
  • It only happens on a Friday if it can't happen on the Saturday night of a long weekend. A bit like the dog getting sick or the horse getting caught in the fence.

One of my 'foobs' looks like a genuine, honest to goodness tit following rads; though it waited until I had finished treatment and was safely away from daily nursing help before it blew up. It  seems mine is lymphoedema and I've got an appointment on Monday with she-who-deals-with-sloshy-knockers to learn how to massage it out. What a shitting nuisance.

If you feel unwell or unsafe try to get hold of some medical advice this weekend -out of hours GP would be a better experience than turning up at your local hospital if that is possible. I wouldn't get too vigorous with any treatment until you know what you are dealing with.  Marg
  • @Bravo I would recommend going to a local gp. Where I am in Melbourne we have an after hours bulk bill clinic. I developed cellulitis three weeks post op. My main sympton was chills and fever.
I am not suggesting this is your problem.
However  it wouldnt hurt to get someone to look at it. I am lucky where I am the clinic is easy to get to and quickly got an appointment.  Without knowing exactly what the problem is it is hard not to worry.
