First Mammogram and Ultrasound since diagnosis and treatment last year !!!

Hi Ladies,  

I had my follow up  Mammogram and Ultrasound yesterday and I surprised myself at how calm I seemed to be. That is until I got home.Then I was very anxious and I really didn't sleep well last night either. I see my Surgeon next week for the results so I think it will be a long 7 days for me.  

I know I have tried so far todo all I can to minimize my chances of a recurrence by eating better, losing weight slowly, and stepping up physical exercise and completing the Encore program afew months ago which helps ladies diagnosed with BC to get fitter and healthier through exercises and Hydrotherapy classes. My treadmill is getting abit of a workout too these days which is good. 

My Breast Lymphoedema issues are still with me and improving slowly and I was very concerned with the Mammogram and how painful it would be because of  the Lymphoedema but it was fine and thankfully I got through it. The Ultrasound was the easy part. 

I know it's normal to feel anxious and nervous and as we all know the waiting is the difficult part of this whole process. The radiographer was happy with the pics she took and went to check them before she came to tell me that all was finished and I can go home. It was atleast 10 minutes of waiting for her to check things but it felt like forever.

She asked me whether I have had radiation so my brain automatically starts thinking of scar tissue damage that maybe she has seen in the Mammogram.

I just hope that after having finished my treatment 7 months ago I can continue to get on with life and not have to worry about treatments again. Fingers crossed for me. !!!

    Hi Ronnie,

    It was my first mammogram and ultrasound last week as well, but as I live 400klms from my nearest medical facilities I had to have it when they could fit me in. My appointment with my oncologist isn't untill 4/5 July. I spoke to my Mcgrath nurse 2 days later and she kept an eye out for my results. On Friday I received a message from her to say I had no need to worry and that the appointment would be just routine. Needless to say I am very relieved. I wish you the same results at your appointment.

    I am kept pretty busy working 5 days a week and catching up on the socialising. going on a mini cruise for australia day which is something I have always wanted to do, so between work and socialising pretty busy. Its just some of those times on your own the mind takes over - thanks for your words. will let you know how I go. Once its all ok will be so good!

    Thanks so much for your best wishes Donna. It's a  huge relief for sure but I am glad that I can move on to other things now, like looking for a part time job.  lol  I look forward to catching up with you and the other lovely ladies very soon.  Wishing you also a very Happy New Year too and I sincerely hope that 2015 brings us all great things.

    Hi Marg,  

    Wishing you all the best for next week Marg. The Mammogram and Ultrasound didnt take too long and I was sitting having a coffee in the Cafe hospital afterwards. I know it's difficult but try and stay calm and do things that make you happy. Before my results I caught up with friends, helped family pack to move house, and spent afew hours on Monday baking and generally tried to keep to routine for me. I am sending you a big hug and my very best wishes. You will be just fine . Look forward to hearing from you.

    It is a good feeling to come out of the doctors office feeling relaxed after feeling abit anxious going in. lol    But overall I have tried to keep my nerves at bay and I have surprised myself. Wishing you all the best Tonya.
