First "flush out"

Hi all,  Had my first flush out of "Penny" portacath yesterday.  Holey coreroly it hurt.  Must remember not to book in for a Friday arvo appt again!!!  I now will plan to go once every 6 weeks instead of 4 weeks just to lessen the "pain".  My surgeon wants me to hold on to "Penny" for 2 years.   I hope he doesn't think I will be needing to use "her" again for chemo!!.  As far as I am concerned "Penny" will be sitting pretty for the next 2 years.  By the way who stole my energy???  I am back on Arimidex - I hate the stuff.  Have others had bad side effects from it?  I went okay on Tamoxifen but apparently it didn't do the best job for my bc.  Off to see Breast Wishes tonight with a group of bc survivors so it should be a good night. I need a good laugh. XLeonie

pink sisters.. maybe i might try and get to a summit in 2012...??

  • Glad you have some energy back.  I have "moments"   Like today I had to get up at 6.45am so that I could put the car in for a service.  I usually don't wake up until 8.30 or 9.30 after my husband goes to work at 6am.  I faired pretty well and even walked around town and had a great time in the sun.,.  It is amazing the different perspective you have when you are walking.  I loved it.  I am hoping to join the cancer survivors walking group next week (they start at 7am)!!!!  Anyway to put a blog on you will need to go to network home then your home and then you can put your blog on.  I thins it says create a blog.  Good luck. Sometime when you are in town you might like to call in for a coffee.  Just leave me a message on here.  XLeonie

  • Hi Leonie,

I'm so glad I didn't have one of them, They kept telling me I had good veins. I was in Rocky on the 9th for a few days. I  had a 21st that night. I went to the markets the next day at the Heritage Village, and shopped the next day. It was so good to be able to do that after a couple of years, since my diagnosis, well nearly anyway. Don't get to town much out here where I live. Now I know I can do it, I will come down though. I enjoyed my few days in town. My energy was low for quite a few months, but seemed to make a turn for the better since about March. I do have mood swings though. I was trying to post something on here to ask a question if others had problems but can't seem to find where to post like I did before. I thought you went into Network home , and then latest posts or something.

Must be that chemo brain. Dr. Fay said I could blame that on them as well,as the mood swings etc.

    Take care

  • Hi Leonie

If Penny is going to keep you company for another 2 years you have to let her and the flushing operator know who's the boss!! I'd certainly be checking for some issues if it is painful again - especially when it hasn't given trouble while you were having chemo.

    Take care Dette xx

  • oh Leonie..i'm sorry u felt pain thru the flush..I am doing the flush thing now as i am about to start on pill only treatment for a while. I have had one flush done-no pain...but this is a new port as the old one became fractured (they tell me that never happens!)..we only knew it was fractured because it hurt to try and put  saline thru and they couldn't seem to get a 'flow' back..

did they have any other problems on the day trying to access the port?? maybe the issue was the access-it may have been a bit off or something..hopefully you don't experience that again...they told me it should never hurt to have anything go thru..perhaps get them to check it out
