First Chemo Treatment

Nice to hear from you and that you are still going well.  I did find the phscyholgist helpful in terms of encouragement.  He was impressed with how I am travelling so far and was impressed with what I am already doing to help myself.  I think for me it will be good to see him as I need to to talk about things that I don't want to share with family that may make them more anxious.  I need them to be strong for me and I need to be strong for them.  Of course I will be honest and open with them about how I am feeling but if I find myself racing too far ahead worrying about the what if's I think it would be better for me to talk to him.  

I  had to see a psychologist  about eight years ago when I was suffering from anxiety and it was very helpful. Since then I went on to study for my Diploma in Counselling from which I gained a lot of useful knowledge and techniques  to draw on.  So yes seeing a phsycholigist is very beneficial.

Mine was red and yes you wee will be a red colour straight away.  Please be assured that the treatment itself will be an anticlimatic.  You will wonder why you let yourself be so anxious when you get started.  Basically it is just long and boring.  I know you will do fine.  It is normal to feel anxious because you are going into a foreign environment but try hard to remember what you have read from other ladies posts here of how easy it really was.

Thanks Robyn for your very good advice.  Yes, I am drinking plenty of water and my water works seem to have gone back to original colour lol.  It is good to know that the time frame for when the tiredness realy kicks in.  I am going to try and get some things out of the way so that when it does I can just blob.

Thanks for your lovely post.  I didn't have a very good sleep, in fact it was the worst since diagnosis.  I don't know if it was due to treatment or information overload.  I had a occupational therapy appointment prior to chemo and then saw psychologist after.  I also had a bit of a headache and flushes.  I am hoping that today's long walk will sort that out for tonight.

Thanks for your thouhts and I am ok.  I went for a 45 min walk this morning. The only thing I found was that I didn't sleep well.  A little jitter from injection for neausia I suspect.  Other than that just feel different and tired.  I am going to visit Mum at the Nursing Home where I will catch up with Dad who visits her twice a day.  Then this afternoon I am going to have a nanna nap and keep the rest of the day nice and quiet.    It certainly is gong to be  challenge to mentally keep life as normal as possible with all that is things to do following surgery etc which keeps your mind on this journey.  I saw the psychologist yesterday too and he thinks I am doing fine and will catch up with me next Friday when I go back for oncology appointment.  

I hope you are going well after you round of chemo.  How is it for you this time?

Hope you are all ok today Joy. Was thinking of you. The icy poles are good but if they are not easy to bring then lots of ice cubes are ok too. Let us know how you are going. Juliexxx

Yep if it's Doxorubicin you are given, then it's red. My chemo nurses called it the red devil. When you first go to the toilet after the infusion, your urine will be red so don't freak out, it's normal. Not long to go for your first treatment but I'm sure you will do just fine :) Janey xxx

Well done Joy.It really is an anti climax isn't it?However,as well as you feel now,you will get tired in a few days,so be prepared to do nothing if you have to.Remember to drink all your water for the next two days,and try and get out and walk a bit.All the best Joy,and let us know how you are. xoxo Robyn

Hi ladies, Is the liquid really red that they give you. I have not had my first treatment yet. Should be starting in Feb. I am having a portacath. As I have 24 weeks of chemo all up. Big hugs to all that have got through this first stage. Trina xxx

Yes Viv, I had an 1/12 wait also and the longer sat there the worse I felt.  Oh well, one down two more of this.  We can do it I am sure.
