First chemo done today!

Hi ladies Feeling proud of myself as got thru today smoothly after having the most anxious day and May tears yesterday . I even managed the fold caps for the 3 half hrs so thee,s still a chance of keeping my hair! Will just wait and see from here on. Jot looking forward to analysing my every day and feeling re potential side effects from here on. Bit daunting. Feeling proud of my strength today as I have been a basket case so far. My 3 beautiful girls and wonderful husband have been so soul saving and supportive. I feel I owe them a good dose of strength and courage to get thru this for us all. Just wanted to share with you that I,ve come along way on this BC journey since October 14 diagnosis , then surgery and now chemo. Best wishes to you all as you take on your next step no matter what stage in your journey you are at. Love karen

  • I'm sorry I missed wishing you luck today. But I'm so glad you came through just fine. I remember that anxious feeling after treatment not knowing what to expect. Just take one day at a time and try and relax. You can tick this one off the list now. Be kind to yourself. Love Janey xxx

  • Hi Hazel

Thanks for sharing your day 1 too! I'm enjoying cups of tea and being home with my beautiful dog!

Friend called in for coffee and chat. Now I've hit the office trying to catch up on some of my work admin...

Might see if that leads to some online xmas shopping whilst girls are at school!!

You know your name is very special - My beautiful grandmother 'Nanny' was called Hazel, and my Mum's middle name is Hazel. I know my Nanny is sending me her support from far above, perhaps in the strength I may get from you online. Bless you too in this journey Hazel xx

  • Well done, karen. I, too, had my first chemo yesterday. Woke up this morning not knowing what to expect, took my anti-nausea medicine, went back to bed for a little more sleep and I don't feel bad at all. You're right, it's a bit daunting not knowing what's around the corner, one day at a time, deal with any effects as they arise. You are so fortunate you have great support, i would be lost without my partner, family and friends. And of course, the wonderful ladies on this network, they help in assuring that what you are feeling is not out of the ordinary. Take care,

    Hazel xx

  • Hi Karen It is amazing how we all seem to find our strength to get through this treatment path. Well done with the cold cap. Did you get a headache from the coldness? I wore the ice gloves for the Docetaxel part of my chemo and that was painful enough! I really hope it works for you. Losing your hair is one of the worst side effects emotionally. Hope you do not have too much trouble with side effects. There is a lot that can be done about most of them so seek advice from the ladies on here and your oncologist and Chemo nurse if you need to. Do not put up with discomfit if you don't need to. Like Robyn said, drink plenty of water and exercise to help with the fatigue. Eat what you can for the first few days and get back to a healthy diet as soon as you feel better. Good luck. Deanne xx

  • The first time is the worst!I hope that your experience wont be too bad,as I think that the fear of the unknown is a big part of chemo.I was like you,and I waited each day for something to happen, and not much did!! For me,the tiredness came on day 5,and the yucky mouth and e few skin rashes.Everyone is different though.Just remember to drink your water and try and do some exercise like walking ,as it helps alleviate the tiredness. All the best!xoxoRobyn.jump back on here and let us know how you are going.
