so I had my first session of AC treatment yesterday.

what am I meant to feel? At this stage I was tired yesterday but not much more.

Which day does it really kick in?

  • Well you would have nausea first night if meds not right. .so woohoo all is good. I just started the gasiness later in week...which then stayed until the end and constipation within 24 hours. Hopefully you won't have this. I got light headed but more in week 2.  I slept a lot the week of chemo.
  • I have had 2 rounds of AC 3 weeks apart and next one on Tuesday. My first round I got really bad nausea and that happened straight up and lasted for 5 days. Second round my oncologist changed my anti nausea meds so had zero nausea and no other symptoms. You may be one of the lucky ones. I feel very lucky to have had no side effects this round and hoping Tuesday is the same! Good luck! PS I know you kinda sit around waiting for symptoms but if you're feeling good just keep living! Xx
  • @KatherineH That may as bad as it gets! Really, my AC a few years ago was fine. The only problems I had were with things like veins later on in my treatment, I developed a DVT (no-one was sure what that was all about) and had bone pain from Neulasta which was administered when my white cells didn't behave. No nausea, tired for a couple of days and had to figure out how to play my bowels (which needed a tune up) Apart from that I worked right through, actually lost some weight by cleaning up my diet and learned I look 'hot' bald. Apparently.

Heave a sigh of relief, you are not out of the woods, but nothing nasty has grabbed you on the first few steps and there is a good chance you will be just fine. Marg

  • Hi @KatherineH, I had my chemo on a Friday, felt a bit out of it that day due to sedative but then felt good for weekend with steroids. Monday night I would start to feel effects & then it hit me Tuesday. I would start to pick up again about Thursday. It was the same each cycle but by the 4th it took longer to get over. I managed to work through it although some days didn't feel very well. Everyone reacts differently but you will get through it, eat well, exercise helps. Good luck!
  • If your lucky that might be all you get. I hope so, I felt tired for the first day and then after the neulasta injection I ached all over. but got through it with nice warm baths and Egyptian bath stuff from the body shop. I had fortnightly AC for 4 rounds then taxol fortnightly for 4 rounds and started feeling a heap better in my second week. but slept a lot in the first week, good luck with it lovey keep us posted. Margie.  :)
