Finding joy in the journey

hello dear sisters,

i was diagnosed with "early" breast cancer in May, well my "early" was the size of half a golf ball, aggressive but thank God no spread to lymph nodes. so far I've had a huge lumpectomy, 5 rounds of chemo with only 1 to go YAY!!! Then I start 6 weeks radiation, think I'm gonna glow this Christmas ?? But you see, all that "stuff", it's not ME. I am so much more than what is happening in my body.

Girls, you know what it's like - we spend our lives giving to everyone else, busy as a Mum, busy at work, busy at home, life just rushes by so fast. With breast cancer it feels like I have the chance to press the reset button on my life. I have no choice about going through this horrible experience, but I can choose what I value and hold on to, and choose too those empty things of my busy life that were just clutter. Time to redesign my life around those values that really matter. Don't think I will ever be able to say I am grateful for bc, but grateful to take time out of the busy-ness of life to invest in healing not just my body, but my heart, mind and soul. Hoping for each of you, that your healing is beautiful.

with love,

Tracey

  • Hi Sandy, rough week & have just read your comment. Like you I have those days when it's all overwhelming.   Anticipating the unknown is harder than going through it. Quizz your team, work out a plan and arm yourself with knowledge. It all helps with the journey. The understanding and compassion of ladies on this site is an invaluable gift. Let us know how your journey goes, we're here for you, and we WILL come through the other end. Lord, bring on that day! Sending  you a great big hug, Tracey xox

  • Hello Tracey,

i was was only recently diagnosed, my lump was <2cm but had spread to one Lymph Node. I've had most of the tests, just the last ones this coming Tuesday, and Wednesday I get a port. Then it's the waiting game for Chemo, which will start in about 2 weeks.

Many of your words hit home. It's how I feel too, but being at the beginning of the journey, I have moments, I think you know what I mean. Not knowing what to expect? Self doubt, worry and the list goes on. It's very overwhelmingly.

I dont really know where I am at to be truthful. I am hoping to connect with other women, share the experience, and come through the other end together.

  • So beautiful and oh so very true Tracey.

I am in aw of the beautiful posts that I read daily, to say they are a comfort to me as I start my treatment is such an understatement.

lots of love and hugs ??????

  • Yes, my sentiments exactly Tracey. I was diagnosed in May, also a 5cm lump. Just finished my last chemo yesterday, mastectomy booked for early December and then 5 weeks of radiation.

It certainly makes you re evaluate your life and think of your self for once.

i wish you all the very best in your on going treatment. Sounds like you are very positive and that's the way it should be!!

Hi Tracey, sounds like you have a really positive outlook, good on you ???? I also took my diagnosis as a second chance at life, and am now looking at life in a much more patient and accepting way. Sometimes you can't do much about what is happening to you, however you can do something about how you respond to it. Your post has been lovely and inspiring. Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ??????

  • Hi Lisa, I can't make any sense out of this disease. I'm so sorry the bc had spread to your nodes and that for some unexplainable reason we get to take this unexpected path in life. Some days are just plain rotten, but I read stories on here & I see the strength, resilience and beauty of all you courageous women and I know that I'm not alone. We're in this together. Hope your healing goes down deep Lisa,

    Tracey

  • Hi Tracey

You have articulated so well, the journey........certainly don't want to be defined by Breast Cancer, but the healing process.

This BC journey has put me into a position of re-assessing, taking time out to reflect and heal.  Being forced into rest made me realise that I was actually burnt out and running on adrenaline most of the time.  Now it is time to smell the roses, appreciate those that are near and dear and tackle the side effects of medication with determination.

Wishing you well with the journey and thanks for the thought provoking post.

    Take care

    Christine xx

  • That's a beautiful message. Thanks Tracey.

i was diagnosed in May too. My lump was <2cm but had spread to the lymph. Go figure. Clearly the size of the lump doesn't always indicate if it has spread or not. Crazy thing cancer!

congrats on almost being done chemo.
