Final herceptin

I am about to have my last Herceptin dose this Friday and am interested in sharing my experiences with other ladies who have had this drug.

I have found the muscle aches and pains quite overwhelming and my arthritis has worsened.  Just wondering who else out there is finding this a challenge?

Also if anyone has been able to find something that helps with peripheral neuropathy from the Taxol, I'd be interested to hear.

I'm grateful to be here and am 'well' but will be even happier when I'm not constantly reminded by pains here and there.

  • Thank you Hilary for your response.  I have asked my oncologist several times how to manage my aches and pains and his only response is paracetamol....taken regularly! which I do from time to time.  I have taken note of the Endep and may ask about it if I can't get any relief for the toes.  Wow I couldn't believe my eyes when I read where you say you don't have the strength to cope...thanks for putting that into words.  I think that is what finds me in tears....the frustration of having to 'dig deep' day in...day out...to keep going.  I'm not on any other medication and am thankful for that....so I'm looking forward to being able to go about my day without being reminded of this 'journey' with every movement.  My left arm now has lympoedema and I should get the compression sleeve any day so hopefully that will give me some relief.  I'm guessing it isn't going to be comfortable to wear but if it helps the heavy feeling...that will be something.  When I look back on the past 12mths of Herceptin, the time has flown so I'm hoping for you that your time will go quickly...and smoothly and your days will be happier.  Cheers Susan.

  • Congratulations on finishing your herceptin, I am half way through and know exactly what you mean about the aches and pain... I am also on Arimidex and that doesn't help either. Now the Taxatere gave me really bad periferal pain and I gave the vit B12 I also use the Mega B gave some relief but not heaps ! told my oncologist who prescribed ENDEP 10mg it is also used for depression but not at this low dose, and it has helped heaps. It took a couple of weeks to kick in but its been ages since I asked for a foot rub and I can now type without my finger ends hurting. Hope this helps. I was so well before I had this happen tome and now I am finding that I have all these aches and pains and no strength to cope with. I too am really happy to be here but I must admit I do feel like an old lady most days LOL Regards Hilary

  • Thanks Tonya....I've been taking Mega B Executive Stress....mainly for my depression and I find that has helped so I'll investigate more about Vit B6.  My toes are the most uncomfortable....I think I've got used to the fingers!  I've also just read that L-Glutamine can help....so I'll keep perservering.  Thanks Susan.
