Final Countdown 3 days to go for Mastectomy and Diep Flap reconstruction....YIKES!!!!!!
Hello My Fellow Courageous Beautiful Friends!!!! Well a few weeks ago I wasn't traveling very well, as we know too well that emotional roller coaster! I have since had an appointment with a Psychologist I saw 3 yrs ago and it was invaluable. It helped incredibly to try and put it all into perspective. She pointed out that our logical thinking comes from the frontal lobe but unfortunately my emotional body hasnt caught up to the logic of whats happening eventhough I know it has to happen because it makes sense. The other thing she pointed out is the attachment I have to my physicality and all my bits and pieces, of course am human this is what we are...but this is not the essence of who I am..I am so much more than that and the irony is when people see me they dont see my physicality they see the depths of the person I am. Somehow separating myself a little in that way has helped with letting go. The other thing was she said I was grieving, grieving the loss of my breast, grieving the struggle the past 6 years all very valid and is important. I feel I turned a corner. I finished work yesterday and the reality hit as I drove home in tears even at my age wishing my MUM was here to wipe them away...OH DEAR LOL So honestly?? I am incredibly nervous!!! and yeah scared of the whole thing, the pain of it, recovery...the end result...but am calm and trying to do one day at a time...just get to Monday and get to surgery thats all!!!! PHEW!!!

- Hi Melinda, I hope by the time you read this your surgery is finished, you are resting comfortably and not in too much pain. I have been thinking of you throughout the day and sending lots of positive thoughts. The first few days are tough but rest easily knowing it is finally done and you can start the process of healing. Take care and sending you a gentle hug, Jane xx
- melclarityMemberThanks Rowdy! sounds like a good plan!! I think Im ready as I'll ever be, it just needs to happen so I can move forward and start healing in many ways than this horrible lead up. xo
- rowdyMemberHi your time is nearly here, once you are in there prepping for surgery, you will have a big sigh of releif. One day at a time recovery is long rest while you can. I used to take small walks across the park and slowly increased how far i went
- melclarityMember@Pegasus2 Thank you! Did you have 1 or 2 done? Ohhh Im so hoping I like my new body as I have struggled with what Ive been left with from Chemo. I'll be happy to lose this tummy!! I was always quite slim until treatment and hoping the new look helps motivate to get really in shape. I'll certainly let everyone know how its going. Hugs xo
- Pegasus2MemberMy very best wishes for a speedy recovery from your DIEP flap procedure. You will love your new body. I had my op early in December and by now I can really admire my natural looking and feeling and matched breasts. My surgeon will do some cosmetic touch ups when I feel up to it. The strange thing is the feeling of a "girdle" where the tummy tissue was removed. Feeling good about my body, will compensates for the trauma of being diagnosed with breast cancer. As I gain strength after a long procedure under anaesthetic I am not pushing myself too hard now that I have learnt that my energy is limited.
My loving thoughts and positive energy will be there for you on your day and as you recover. Draw on it with all the energies offered to you <3
Pegasus2 - melclarityMember@Glemmis thanks! Ohhh I was told by all the Specialists I'll have alot of pain uuuugh I guess as Im doing the Mastectomy and Diep flap all in one hit so double the wounds eeeek. I think that is the tough part you are right, Im Cancer Free so parting with it is very difficult absolutely. CONGRATS!!!! So glad you finished that part! Hope you are feeling ok? Yes Im worried about the 6hr ordeal its very frightening. Sure will I'll post when I can xo
- GlemmisMemberWishing you all the best Melinda for Monday. It is scary the unknown but once over you will feel relieved. I was very frightened but had no pain after & felt better knowing the cancer had gone. I know you don't have cancer so might be a little bit harder to part with. I finished 16 rounds of chemo today & now onto radio & Femara then in June mastectomy on other side & double reconstruction. I think I am more worried about being under a general for eight hours! Let us know how you are feeling when you can xx
- nikkidMemberThx Mel xxx
