Femara and Bilateral de Quervains (or Tenosynovitis)

Hi there

I just wanted to post some amazing news - well an outcome anyway. I have been on Femara since New Years Day and have developed the usual aching bones and joints as well as quite severe bilateral de Quervains in both my wrists.

I was about ready to give up - although for me that would not have been great to go back to tamoxifan given my initial advanced diagnosis, so I have tried something a little different and the result has been amazing.  No more waking at night.

Shark Cartilage, Blackmores Liprodyl (green lipped mussel) and panadol osteo.   I plan to cut back the panadol but am enjoying my sleep at the moment so will give it another week.

Be great to hear if anyone else has tried this combo?

Lucy

  • Hi Lucy, I have been on Femara for 3 1/2 years, and also suffered from bilateral de Quervaines. It came about 1 year after starting Femara, and lasted a good 10 months. It was one of the most painful side effects. I did take fish oil and the green lipped mussel. I also went to a hand physio and wore splints. Mine was exacerbated with 2 house moves during the time, so I was unable to rest my wrists like I should. I still take fish oil and krill oil, and I have very few side effects now. Keep  taking it, and with time your side effects should ease.

  • Thanks for this!  I've been on Femara since January and have been in lots of pain re aching joints etc.  It's a struggle to get out of my car - I look like a really old lady attempting to do it!  I will try this stuff and let you know how I go.  I really don't want to face another five years of this pain!!!  Tink x

  • Thanks for this info Lucy

I had similar symptoms (also on Femara) and a hand physio made a brace for me to wear, which gave relief after a few weeks. I always have low level pain though, so will give the supplements a try. Vicki x
