Feelings ....

Hello everybody,

after diagnosed with bc in July 2015 I went through

ct and bone scan ... all clear

mastectomy (clear margin and lymph nodes)

6 rounds of FEC

25 rounds of radiation (only 3 more to go - yeah)

... should be everything fine now.

Is it normal that I'm still afraid of what could be ? I should be happy that I found the cancer early and it is removed but I have days full of anxiety ... not all days. The most are very good and positive and than the black shadow of ... 'will it come back' ... turns up again.

Does anybody feel the same ... sometimes ... ?

Michaela

  • Yep we have all been there. But its important to realise that no one knows what lies ahead and we cant control the future....this is true for everyone not just those touched by bc. So try to enjoy life and live life to the full. Dont dwell on the what ifs because whatever happens you just deal with it.

Its important to time out to celebrate your achievements when you have finished treatment because you are so worth it.

  • Hi Michaela,

i agree with the other girls. I think most of us feel like this to some extent once treatment is done. I think part of it is that we have been so focused on getting through treatment and doing what we have to that we don't have time to acknowledge what we have been through and what it means both now and possibly Into the future.  If the anxiety is on going, speak to your doctor or a counsellor about it.  Be gentle to yourself. • Hi Michaela

From my experience, yes everyone does feel a bit the same at the end of treatment. You don't just bounce back into life where you were before bc. It's the 'What now?' bit of all this.

It does get easier in time. Those dark, 'what if?' moments get fewer and fewer. The fatigue gets less and you grow more confident about life again. I'm almost 3 years from diagnosis and apart from the occasional moment (check-ups are a classic worry time with most people, I think) I feel positive about my life and the future again :)

What you are feeling is 'normal' for us and it will get better with time. Enjoy the good times and allow yourself a moment when you need to. Take care. Deanne xxx

  • Hi Michaela,

everyone does as far as I can gather. You are probably feeling exhausted after all the treatment. I slept for about 3 weeks after rads. I also felt at a loose end, after all that care it can be a bit depressing when it is finished and everyone expects you to bounce back and be yourself again. I have found it isn't the case I am tired but getting better a little bit everyday. It takes longer then I thought. Hang in there it gets better it is exhausting thinks about what might happen next.
