Feeling nervous

What a roller-coaster this has been.   Less than 3 weeks ago i was told i have breast cancer after my first mammogram.  Shock set in and the usually  very strong and together "miss wendy" was an emotional wreck.   How could something like this happen to wreck my plans of working towards early retirement and travelling around Australia in our caravan.  All of sudden we have to evaluate everything, things that i have been putting off doing have now all be done.

I now await for surgery tomorrow and then 'my journey' like so many on this site.  Although i think my journey started 3 weeks ago.

I have been lliving it up lately, seems like everyone wants to have a drink with you and a cuddle (I am a hugger) so i have lots of support but i think finding this site will be wonderful to talk to other ladies going thru the same thing.

Thank you ladies :) x

  • My goodness our group grows everyday this site is great its like spilling your guts without being judged and every lady seems to know what to say back , we obviously all went to the same school of amazing people (JOKE)  I am in my 4th week post lumpectomy and node removal and cannot believe where the time went to, into the throws of radiotherapy and meds in the next few weeks. I went back to work this week which was a great distraction but was bought back to reality today at my appointment as all of a sudden started to cry for no reason. Its a roller ride but chatting to everyone is great and we all have a similar but a different story. My husband is planning a trip for us next year dont let this stop your plans they can be in the future.     best luck with the surgery

  • Hi there and welcome, you will find this SUCH a great place ! People who know what you're talking about and how you are feeling.

I had a lumpectomy and a sentinel node biopsy justas you are. My lump was 9mm, all removed with clear margins  and my sentinel nodes were clear. TAt that stage my surgeon was telling me that I would need 6 weeks of radiation and that would be it, all done and dusted.

Unfortunately after pathology I was found to be HER2+ so that meant the full range - 6cycles of chemo, a year on Herceptin, 6 weeks of radiation and some years of endocrine therapy.  I am now just up to chemo #3 and it's all going fairly smoothly.  Not as bad as some, I've been lucky.

Just take one step at a time - my surgery was very smooth, almost painless afterwards and healed really well - so I hope that for you too.

Ask HEAPS of questionsof your surgeon, they are marvellous and will tell you as much or as little as you want to know.

And ask them here too, someone will be in the same boat as you.

Travelling is just postponed, not cancelled. Life will go on afterwards - you just have to delay for a bit and give yourself time to recover.

    best wishes

  • Hi Jo

Thank you for your message.  I feel privileged to have met all you lovely ladies and already I feel better. Just knowing that there are other people going thru what i am is giving me amazing strength.

Last night i was a wreck (well early hours of this morning) but tonight i feel calm as.

I am ready for tomorrow as this leads me closer to getting results and treatment.

    Thanking you love Wendy x

  • Hi Julie

    Lovely to meet you.

Did they take all the lymph nodes out when they did the lumpectomy ?    I  having a lumpectomy and a sentinel node to take out the main lymph node I think,  but not sure now?

How are you going with the chemo? that scared me a bit but i think i am in a better mindset now that my surgery is booked to cope a bit better if this is my fate.

You still have quite a bit of treatment to go, I wish you the best of luck and i will in contact and definately post on here how i went.

    Thank you Love Wendy x

  • Hi Cheryl

Thank you so much for your lovely words.    I cannot believe the support of all you girls and you are all going thru your own bc journey and can still manage kind words for people like me.

I may very well ask lots of questions as time passes as there is so much i do not know.  1 year of treatment wow, but i guess everyone is different.  Is that chemo and then radiation ?  Hope you finish treatment soon.

    Thank you love Wendy x

  • All the best for tomorrow, we all know what your feeling and its not nice at all but  it  will ease once they determine your treatment plan after surgery. The total BC  journey is a nightmare, but it is one we all fight together on here.

Sending heaps of strength your way and hope everything turns out good. There is so much strength that comes from these ladies on this site so dont be shy to ask anything you need to know. Thinking of you

    Cheers Joxx

  • Wishing you all the best for surgery tomoz.

It is really sad to have to meet you but alas here you are.

At least with this site you can ask the questions you may feel too silly to ask anyone else, scream the  way you want to, cry at how you feel, laugh at the ridiculousness of some of the things people will say to you, be totally innapropriate and have a friend in cyberspace at 3:00 in the morning when you are all buzzy from drugs or just sad at everything.

Everything eventually gets back to normal again and  we hide alot of how we feel, cope and go through everything but at least you know we know how you 'really' feel.

I am over 1 yr in and still having treatment and slowly getting there as you will,

    Lots of love

    Cheryl

  • Hi Michelle I am going in tomorrow for a sentinel node and a lumpectomy in the afternoon. At this stage I should be home tomorrow night all going okay....my surgeon said it will all depend on the size. I thank you so much for your kind words, I know I will feel so much better when surgery is over. And I will certainly keep posting on here as the support I have felt so far is amazing . Thanking you, hugs Wendy xox
