Feeling forgetful and foggy
Hey guys,
I finished chemo in April and have been on tamoxifen for 1 week. I feel like I'm in a fog and keep forgetting where I put stuff etc .Could this be chemo brain or tamoxifen side effects. Feeling frustrated. Anyone else had this? I really hope it gets better.
xx

I know people who've had bad accidents and suffered similar trauma with fog going on so I think as bc is all on our mind all the time is so distracting and causing this fog but is really trauma. If that makes sense.
So perhaps it probably takes a couple of years to heal, learn to adapt and allow oneself to take control and feel safe again x - MaggieRMemberHI Annabelle, I didn't do chemo but have been on tamoxifen for 2.5 yrs. Sometimes I fell like I have dementia - lol. Clarity is no longer a strong point of time - brain fuzz is. Did some research and found Estrogen is a hormone also produced by the hippocampus - memory source. As tamoxifen blocks estrogen I reckon we are affected more speedily. You'll have heard from any menepausal woman that her memory is crap - thats because their estrogen levels are being depleted thru normal processes. Ours are doubled. I read that taking up a second language can help with this loss.

Be kind to yourself you've been through heaps and as we all know it's not like oh you've had an operation it's been 6 weeks and you should be fine and back to normal! We wish! - AnnabelleMemberThanks guys I think its a combination of everything. It is rather embarrassing! I get my words mixed up. As if we haven't been through enough. xoxo
- iserbrownMemberOr is it fatigue as a result of diagnosis and treatment!
- MiraMemberHi, I've never had chemo but am on tamoxifen. I get a foggy brain and forgetful, I thought it was old age though :)
- Brenda5MemberFor me its both, chemo and Tamoxifen combination. It is rather distressing. I just hope it eventually gets better as its quite embarrassing for me.
- melclarityMember@soldiercrab I agree with you, Im heading to 2yrs and whilst not quite perfect, my chemo brain has improved out of sight. It does get better, and I remember an OT that came to visit not long ago before I returned to work said that in majority of her cases they all improve at the 2yr mark and eventually to normal. The other thing she said is work is better as it really helps, I thought oh yeah!!! I can't think straight...I have to concede she is right. I have to think on my feet in my job and quickly and its really coming together like it used to the more I do it. x
