Feeling Angry Today

Ok so today I am feeling angry…I think I have been reading too much and I am starting to get sick and tired of waiting…

The biggest lessons I have learnt since my diagnosis are…

·         One size does not fit all (in relation to Treatment)

·         This is bigger than the physical disease and the patient

What do I mean by that?  Please don’t think I am telling you something you don’t already know – this is more about verbalizing how I feel…  J

Depending on your diagnosis, your treatment plan, your previous experiences with the disease, your personal feelings, your emotional response and the advice and information provided to you  every woman will potentially choose a different path.

What people (including the medicos) tend to forget is that the psychological and emotional responses to this disease are just as important, perhaps more important that the physical treatment.  The issue is of course is that these two elements cannot be seen or touched, and cannot be treated with a pill.  They do however play an important role in how and what decisions we make.

I am horrified that there are suggestions made that women make the decision to have a double mastectomy lightly or that just because we have been diagnosed with BC in one breast there is no need to remove the other…  Who wants to play Russian roulette with this pig of a disease, or spend the next however many years looking over their shoulder, or go through any of this again?

I am told I am brave for making this choice… no I am a chicken – I don’t want to do this again, I don’t want to see the fear in my husbands or children’s faces again…  Its bigger than just me it affects more people than just me…

I do not make this decision lightly I have weighed up all the pros and cons and this is the best choice for “ME” – not what other women do, not what the health profession think I should do, but what I need to do to get the best health outcome for me!!!!

The choice I make may not suit every one – but that’s ok – its our body and our choice to make…  We just need the information freely offered so that we make the right choice.

I support every woman’s right to make the choice that suits them and I wish for all of you the strength you need to demand the treatment that meets your diagnosis and your needs.

We all deserve what is right for us and just because our needs do not fit standard clinical practice does not mean that our wishes should be overruled or ignored……

Love and hugs to all  Chris

  • Yes,once our treatment is over,( if it ever REALLY is) the psychological trauma is ongoing. For me,even though I am well,I am so aware,24/7 that I have one breast. It actually doesn't worry me,or upset me,it's just that I know, and most people that I come across daily, don't know. When I sit at the school to pick up my foster child each day,I look at the other Mums, and I feel different.Outwardly I'm not,but inwardly I am.Chances are, there are other Mums there that have had BC,but even knowing that,it doesn't help in making me feel differently. You are right about treatment too. Each one of us is so different ,and entitled to our own opinion. That is why I love this blog, because we can air our feelings without being judged.Try to be patient Chris. It is the worst part of the journey the waiting, but pretty soon it will be a memory. :) Cheers xoxRobym
