Fatigue

HI all,

I am just wondering how others have coped with fatigue. I can't believe how it has hit me at the end of my chemo. I get breathless just doing the simplest things and my muscles feel like they have seized!!  I start radiation this week so I am wondering if the fatigue is going to get worse??   I would really appreciate any advice.

  • Hi Jo,

I am triple negative so no hormones for me. I think it is just the cumulation of all those great drugs for chemo!!!! My first week of radiation was OK. It is very tiring though. I had quite a long wait each day as the machine broke down on two days, and then they had emergency patients on the other days. But, the staff are really great and they make you feel very comfortable (well as comfy as you can be lying with your hands above your head and your boobs exposed!).  Anyway let us know how your radiation goes - good luck with it all.

  • hi Mel, i don't start my radiation for a week or so yet,  but have already started on the hormone meds as i have 96% hormone receptor–positive breast cancer. Im on  Tamoxifen daily and zoladex injections and i am so lethargic it's a joke.  I am sleeping most of the day and night and have rotten headaches and blurred vision . All i can put it down to is the meds. I hope the radiation isn't going to make that worse as i will be a walking zombie going to the hospital daily for Rads. If your on Hormone meds maybe that's part of your problem  Hope you find some relief or a solution soon, good luck with it all.

    Cheers Jo xxx

  • Ditto to all that you are saying.  I feel like such a lazy thing.  No energy but I have been ill since the summit (saw in a blog that you were there too - sorry I missed you)  I just have no interest in "getting into anything".  So pleased that my adrenalin was working so that I could keep going at the Summit.  I am off to Brisbane on Saturday to see my daughters and their families so I hope to be feeling better.  I am glad that I had my radiation prior to my chemo - would have been too tired to go everyday - also have to be away from home.  I was really tired after radiation last time (jan 2007) but this time (March 2011) I faired much better.  Get as much rest as you can.  I have started a Mindfulness Course which goes for 8 weeks.  We are all learning to look at and experience "things" very differently.  Each day I have to meditate for 40 mins.  I tend to get some "catch up" sleep during my session but manage to "come back" .  It is a guided meditation and yesterday I "lost one and a half legs"!!!!!  It also involves doing exercises with my breathing.  Makes me take time out for myself.  Very good.  XLeonie
