Facebook Group and organisation

I have found a wonderful support group online  they have a closed group and a public page.

About the closed group is for anyone who has undergone a mastectomy and is now living the Flat and FABulous life! (did you choose not to have reconstruction? did you have to reverse your reconstruction? are you contemplating it?) Whatever the case, we are all-inclusive and would love to see you here

Many of us can understand the day to day issues unique to living without reconstruction following mastectomy. We can figure it out together.

We are open-minded, supportive and most importantly, UNCENSORED! The only conversation we ask be taken elsewhere is if you choose to go forward with reconstruction. While we openly support and strive to empower our sisters to make choices best for them, we are a support group for those living without reconstruction and want to respect this boundary. If you do go forward with reconstruction, we will be happy to connect you with wonderful groups who can support you in this new journey as you exit ours.

We embrace and encourage our members to share their photos. If this is an issue for you, this will not be the group for you. We believe sharing the reality of our journeys helps heal – both ourselves and each other.

So feel free to open up and let off some steam or express yourselves in any way you need to! We do not judge or discriminate! We believe in embracing each other and accepting each other's differences! No matter what!

**Please note - we do not allow promotion of non-F&F related things within the group. If you would like to share your page or company because it is useful to our members, please do so on the fan page

NO reconstruction, or chose to wear foobs.

did you choose not to have reconstruction?

You need information about services or where to go for  foobs etc just ask.

in 24hours we have over 15 members, from all parts of Austalia.

    Thanks Alice aka Soldier Crab....

  • By now you will have seen my post titled No Reconstruction Group (??).

Perhaps you could make a comment on the internet group re what ladies would like to see happening if the BCNA Group could be more active.

If the No Reconstruction Group members begin by putting their State on items they write at least it would give the Facilitator the numbers for each State and determine if it would be worthwhile to go further.

Come on 'flat and fabulous ladies' - get your replies in.

  • It would be nice. to be more active on here.... I found that it rarely has activity.

I am not sure who or how we would go about organising who lives where.

I have found that all the aussies on the flat & fabulous page all felt like their are in the minority with their choices. until becoming a member on the group.

Even if you dont go to facebook you can join the flat and fabulous webpage. and get wonderful information and support.

  • No, you certainly won't have offended anyone !

It is good that ladies are aware of other websites that may help them.  I felt that my choice of no reconstruction was in a minority but maybe not.

Perhaps we can get the No Reconstruction Group up and running a bit as I did see a comment that one lady had never been aware there is one here on this site.  I do see, though, that several ladies have joined of late.

Perhaps someone at BCNA can give advice as to how the Group could be more supportive ?

If any members have any thoughts on this Group and what they need, maybe they will add some comments, too.  Hey, ladies, any ideas ?

Perhaps if Group members added their State to a message we could arrange some sort of get-together.  What do you think ?

  • hi Summer I have found there is very little activity on the no reconstruction group  yet since I joined Flat and Fabulous on facebook I have met several australian women all with the same thoughts lack of support in their choices. I hope I have not offended anyone by giving this wonderful page/group the information.

    take care

  • The 'Flat AND Fabulous' site is a great idea for ladies who have decided not to opt for reconstruction following surgery for cancer.  Well done to those who started it !

I recently attended a short seminar on the use of Facebook and the following items may be of interest to ladies, especially those who may be thinking of posting photos on the web:

    1.  Facebook owns all data put onto the site

    2.  Facebook can use anything they want in any fashion (this is in the fine print)

    3.  You can set your boundaries to as private and secure as you want BUT Facebook periodically goes through and resets it all so you need to check that regularly to avoid being compromised

Personally, I do not use Facebook for these reasons, even though I have an excellent anti-virus package.

I feel BCNA is a great place for us and the organisation does have checks in place to be sure members are in fact bona fide.

Perhaps the BCNA No Reconstruction Group can look at the other and see if there is a gap which needs to be filled ?

    Maybe BCNA can comment ?
