Dear Brenda5 and Alsopt..... I was also told not to be reading forums by my Onc, ( Private, each consult during my 6 week Rads treatment lasted approx 3-4 mins , just asked to look at my breasts which I had to do just sitting in a chair in his office, no bed, screen or cover for my decency, it was SO humiliating ) Had  follow up appt 2 weeks ago , insisted my hubby came with me for the ' get your breasts out ' bit , NEVER even asked after my breasts , had total of 8 mins with him ( 4 when he had to go check on another patient )  and he just said 

' Goodbye , see you next year maybe........he has provided me with no results of any outcomes of my radiation treatment so I actually do not have a CLUE what is happening in the future !!!!! If it wasn't for a lot of our lovely ladies on here I wouldn't even have understood my treatment plan or path results , so thank god for all these lovely women who take of their time to help us....... It's hard to ask for the right answers when you don't even know what the questions are , Knowledge is power , always remember that . Thinking of you all . ??

Yes I was told not to read the internet but honestly that's the only way sometimes to find out what exactly is happening as a surgeon and oncology just don't have the time to answer every single little question and then I usually have more questions along the way, mostly about side effects and if they are serious or not.

it sounds like you are having a rough time and I am sorry for that.

Is there a specific treatment you are looking for that you can't get where you are?

Are you rural?  Are you public or private?

I know it can be frustrating when we have to travel to get the treatment we need, however sometimes it is not always practical to offer all services at all locations and that is not just limited to the health sector, unfortunately it is often economics (supply and demand)

I know I faced some of the same challenges in my treatment.

Can you get a referral to get the treatment you are looking for, there may be cheap accommodation options nearby if you need to travel (many options are available through Cancer council) I know many of our country ladies need to travel to the city for radiotherapy and stay in the city for their treatment.

There are many aspects unfortunately that are not ideal and sometimes we need to focus on getting through and staying positive in difficult circumstances.

Agreed I went private with surgeon but public with chemo radio it's so frustrating to hear all our stories and know basically life could be made easier last time I asked about another option I was told not to read the Internet or forums really? Xx

H Alsopt , I truly couldn't agree more! Can't understand with the taxes and Medicare rates we pay how only a private patient can participate in DIBH , I think the BEST chance should be given to EVERY woman regardless ..... Mind you , am not knocking the actual public system itself , I have friends with BC who are public patients and the care and attention they have received from their team has been phenomenal whereas mine as private has been diabolical .... Just think this (or any) government should spend our money in keeping us at the leading edge of treatment , and definately more resources for follow up procedures such as PET scans and MRI's , so many people just can not afford the out of pocket expenses incurred with these tests. For now... You take care of getting better.... 1 fight at a time ??
