Hi Everyone, I had my usual routine Mammogram 8 weeks ago and I had a recall to go back for further tests. I have never had an abnormal Mammogram but always go along with my mother every 2 years. This time after having a Core Biopsy I was told that I have a small lesion from the left nipple BRE Grade 2.. I saw the Surgeon last week and was told that I am booked in for surgery next week and I will be having a Wide local excision of the left breast and a Sentinel Node Biopsy too. This will be followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy. I am still in shock over this and even angry. Not sure why but my emotions have been all over the place. Others have said that it's early cancer and thank goodness you go to regular routine screenings and it could be worse, but I have no lumps and I have had no symptoms to alert me to changes in my body so feeling angry is probably normal. There is no history of Breast Cancer in my family so a double shock for me. At this point I have been told that I don't need Chemo only Radiotherapy but I guess that is pending pathology results after the surgery. I am a positive person usually but I do find all this daunting. Ever since my diagnosis 8 weeks ago I think any pain I have experienced in my body seems to be magnified ten times over. I feel every ache and it worries me, but I realise it's my nerves and anxiety playing games with my brain. Hi Ronnie, I was told only surgery and Radio will do, cause the Dr project my tumor was small. However, after the surgery and the tumor was cut, it found was a Grade 3 (most aggresive one) with only 15mm. Also I the pathology result reflected my ER+ and HER2+ So I was proposed to have 6 weeks Chemo, + Herceptin 1year, 6weeks Radio, and 5years Tamoxifen. My 1st round will be this Friday and I am well prepare both physical and mentally (just struggling when is the best time to shave myself) Please don't be too panic or angry. No doubt the name of "cancer" is scary, however, now is much much popular around the world. It's good you come into this Web and there are lots of pink sisters sharing information, which make the scenrio more transparent. Please be brave and be positive. The best advice given to me was to take 'one day at time', it can be hard to follow because the mind does seem to run off into the future. I had 2 tumours, fortunately they were in the same quadrant of one breast, so I had a wide local incision and a sentinel node biopsy, all good with the nodes. Because of the family history it was reccomended I have chemo and radiation, have completed chemo and moving on to radiation, then hormone treatment. I'm so sorry that you have been diagnosed, it is such a shock. I was only 47, had always been very healthy and did not have any family history. Most of us never expect this to happen to us. I remember feeling like my life had run off the rails, like I'd woken up in some parallel universe. You do find your emotions are all over the place and I found some people's comments hard to take. But for your own sake it helps to respond to this crisis in constructive ways. I tried not to spend too much time on anger or the 'why me'. Reading other people's stories I quickly realized that cancer does not discriminate. It happens to young/old, fit or not so fit, and it happens to GOOD people. It is not fair but once you have a diagnosis the one thing you can control is how you think about it. I chose to find out all I could about how to help myself through the treatment I would need. Then I set about doing this. I had somehow managed to get cancer but there was a lot I could do to help myself. I walked, I ate healthy and I prepared for surgery. It is not easy but you do get through what you have to and you can help your body to recover from this. I finished treatment almost 4 months ago and I feel healthy again.
