Double mastectomy vs close monitoring??
I am currently awaiting gene testing results but am looking at my options. Of the ladies who have tnbc, and not got a faulty bcra gene result, who opted for mastectomy or chose close monitoring? What reasons did you have for your decision?

- Even if you have a double mastectomy you will be closely monitored for 5 years ....
first 3mthly then 6mthly then yearly - I am 42 and no real family history. I feel i am being steered away from mastectomy as they are planning radiation after chemo finishes. From what they have told me and what i have read, tnbc has a nasty habit of reoccurring and i definitely don't want that.
- Hi, I was a tnbc. My oncologist wouldn't hear of gene testing suggesting as I was 65 there was no need to have it done. Also because there was no history of BC in my family. I had a lumpectomy in my right breast, with a second operation required to gain clear margins, no lymph nodes involved. My husband and I had decided before seeing the surgeon we would ask for a mastectomy but my surgeon was very much against it. And I guess we trusted him. So much is thrown at you when you are diagnosed it's impossible to think clearly. Keep us posted with your outcome and take care.
