Double Mastectomy surgery on Thursday
I was diagnosed with breast cancer December 12, 2018. My double mastectomy is scheduled for Thursday. I am both anxious and sad. My thoughts are racing and I'm trying to keep my anxiety low, with not much luck. I understand the feelings are normal, I just need to be able to get a handle on the anxiety.

Big hugs to to you today. You may never meet any of us in person however we are all thinking of you.
Warm Kimberley wishes to you.
Annie - ZoffielMemberGood luck @Sharon01 It's a crappy situation to find yourself in but today is only one day, and you will never have to repeat it. If you need pain relief, and you well may not, take some. There are no prizes for toughing anything out and that applies to the next couple of weeks as well. Rest when you can, do your exercises, but don't push yourself too hard. We know how you feel. Mxx
- tigerbethMember@Sharon01 good luck for today
hope all goes well & your recovery is speedy

Hi and welcome.
Oh such a short time to gather your head but I was so happy to have the cancer cut out of me. It will give you healing time over Xmas then start any other treatment needed in New Year if you need any. Kath x - Blossom1961Member@Sharon01 I am sorry you had to find us but this is the most supportive site you could have found. The ladies here have helped me more than I could have ever imagined. I had a single sided mastectomy two weeks ago. I am not going to be flippant about it. The mental coming to terms takes awhile. Whilst I am not grieving, I am at a bit of a loss to understand myself. The pain was not near what I expected. More uncomfortable than anything else. The lymph node clearance was a bit more painful, but again, very manageable. Lots of snuggle hugs and know that you can get on here and be supported even when you are cranky. We all get it.

- AllyJayMemberHi there @Sharon01..I'm so sorry you've had to join our club, but welcome anyway. I had a double mastectomy two years ago, after six months of chemo. I was 58 at the time and physically the operation was not that hard for me or even particularly painful as such. Niggly and uncomfortable for sure, but certainly less painful than having my appendix out in the '70's, when you ended up with a decent six inch long wound, cutting through abdominal muscles. Mentally is obviously another ball game as the loss of our breasts is such an intimate and integral part of our womanhood. You are in good company here, as all us women, and a few men too. totally get it. Cancer of any sort is a nightmare diagnosis, and breast cancer is a double whammy. Sending you a big warm cyber (((hug))). Ally.
