Hi there @Sharon01..I'm so sorry you've had to join our club, but welcome anyway. I had a double mastectomy two years ago, after six months of chemo. I was 58 at the time and physically the operation was not that hard for me or even particularly painful as such. Niggly and uncomfortable for sure, but certainly less painful than having my appendix out in the '70's, when you ended up with a decent six inch long wound, cutting through abdominal muscles. Mentally is obviously another ball game as the loss of our breasts is such an intimate and integral part of our womanhood. You are in good company here, as all us women, and a few men too. totally get it. Cancer of any sort is a nightmare diagnosis, and breast cancer is a double whammy.
