Today I was diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma grade 2. Tomorrow I am meeting with a surgeon, Dr Peter Schwartz to discuss treatment. This is a bolt from the blue and a result from a routine mamogram that my doctor suggest I have following a pap smear, based purely on my age. No family history and no lump, just a routine test. I am 41 years old, married with two amazing daughters. I am hoping tomorrow will shed some light as I have absolutely no idea of what I am in for as far as treatment, work, family, prognosis etc....pretty much everything!! I would love to talk with other ladies in the same boat who might be able to share their stories. THanks so much. Lisa Dunn

It's the hardest thing to hear those words you have bc, it's like bottom falls out of your stomach, but you do get past it, at least it's been found and you can be guided by your doctor. It's hard but it's do able. It's great you've found this site . Make sure you take someone with you sometimes things just don't sink in and it's a blur, it's good to have another pair of eyes and ears. You will be fine . Regards adean

Last year,Sep 2nd I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma grade 2.Like you,it came as a bolt out of the blue.I had a mastectomy,followed by chemo,and I am now on Tamoxifen.I feel well,and my hair is coming back.Yesterday I had my first haircut!! Everyone's treatment is different,so try not to stress until your doctor has outlined your plan for you.I was one of the ladies that found chemo not bad at all.As Adean said,try and have someone with you ,especially at that first appointment,where they discuss treatment,because there is SO MUCH to rememeber!Write it down as well,and ask any questions that pop up in your mind.No question is silly!Stay on here,because this blog is the most amazing place for support throughout your treatment.CheersxoxRobyn

Big welcome to this network(your new world).You've probably had your surgeon's appointment today so I hope all was explained to you.You start to feel slightly better when there is a plan in place.Just take each bit at a time as it can feel overwhelming.Have you ordered your "my journey kit"-free from this network.Lots of reading but it will get you up to speed with bc.I had a similar diagnosis as you,however everyone's cancer is different.I've been on this crap journey twice(2003 and 2010)and I'm totally fine now.If it's caught early then you have a good chance of living a long life.Let us know how you went today and if we can help in any way.Big hug, Tonya xx

Ladies, just wanted to drop in and send a big cyber hug of thanks for your support im my earliest of days. My surgeon was wonderful and I am going in for breast conservation next wednesday which i think is also a lumpectomy. They are going to test the lymph nodes to see if it has spread and then I guess we go from there. I have been told at the least I will do about 5 weeks of radiation following the surgery. I have ordered the my journey kit and hope it arrives soon. I've been drinking green juices filled with kale, cucumber and all sorts of other stuff twice a day and am absolutely determined to beat this. My husband has been in Bali for a week on a surfing trip with mates for a 40th and I had my mamogram on the way home from the aiport. He is arriving home tomorrow and I can't wait, - it's been one HELL of a week. I'll be in touch next week and let you know where I am at. Thank you all so very much again and stay tuned. xxx

Hello Lisa This is something we never want to hear, but unfortunately it happens so often. I had a double mastectomy in January this year and my surgeon was Dr Peter Schwartz - you wont get better, he is a remarkable man. My tumour was detected from a mamagram - like you no lump etc. I had a biopsy done twice then it had to be a Mastectomy and I have had no regrets. Still dealing with the lumps and bumps but I have been told that this can take up to 2 years to clear. If you require to have special bras and inserts I can highly recommend - lilybliss to you - you will find her services listed on this website and she is just wonderful - will come to your home fit you out and have you looking & feeling great. I hope your journey is as easy as mine - no chemo - no radiation - just a tablet every night, Arimidex - so it couldnt be easier - if there is anything I could assist you with please let me know, as for some this can be a very difficult journey. I hope your outcome is as good as mine
