Dental issues

Hi all,
Just wanting to know if anyone has had dental issues since finishing chemo/radiation ? I finished treatment sept 2018 and now having so many issues and trips to the expensive dentist .
weakened Enamel , cracked tooth etc or am I just getting older (41)
  • Thanks everyone , I thought I may have been going crazy thinking that my dental issues started after chemo/radiation . I was speaking to my parents neighbour and she also said she had problems with her teeth after treatment with weakened enamel and cracked teeth and she had 5 teeth removed 🤦🏽‍♀️ Not sure if she had issues before hand I forgot to ask
  • Hi Brenda5, I recently visited the dentist with an abscess, started a root canal as the tooth had died. Dentist discovered the tooth had a crack right through the middle, just finished  4 doses of Dense dose A/C over 8 weeks.
Dentist drained abscess, packed tooth with antibiotics and pain relief, as it will need to be removed at a later date once treatment is finished.

Obviously another shitty side affect to our treatment
  • I had no gum or cavity issues but had two teeth die and become abscessed after chemo and during hormone therapy. Both had to be extracted. The teeth looked fine, just the nerves died in them.
  • My dentist said it was mainly radiotherapy that causes issues and from the readings I've done that's only when done near head and neck region. Anything that reduces your bone density can impact on teeth and decreased saliva leads to increased risk of cavities and gum issues.
  • @Nikkilee I have been having problems soon after starting chemo. One year later and I have numerous cracked teeth and weakened enamel
  • Thanks , I am also having problems with old fillings I have had 2 fall out also taking part of the tooth with it , am having bothering teeth removed next week
  • Some people have issues with the gums receding from around the teeth, I believe.  For me, it's been issues with old fillings - I've had two broken that have taken away some of the tooth with them.  Dentist has said that all looks okay now but I may be grinding my teeth in my sleep (sleep? what sleep?) putting extra pressure on them so I am going to look at getting a guard made up.  The other thing I have noticed is that sensitivity has increased (I used to have problems with that when I was younger) but the sensitive toothpaste seems to be sorting that.
