Day 5

It's strange the way people either cry or get very upset when u text them u have breast cancer. Told a friend today and she got very upset. She's battling melanoma and i feel like she drew the short straw. Maybe I'm in denial as i haven't cried yet. Maybe when they set the date for my op things will get very real very fast.

  • Thanks Lynelle. How terrible for you and your family, with both you and your sister having bc. Booby Cancer, I think I like that. I'm not overly attached to my boobs, other than in a physical sense, but my husband feels a little differently about it than me. Good luck to you too :)
  • Oh lynne what a shock! I remember when they told my sister in 2013 she was to have a masectomy i cried. It seemed so cruel and heartless to me but now I've been diagnosed I realise it's just another step in the recovery process. My sister said being here for her kids was way more important than a boob and she hasn't looked back since. Tough as nails I call her. We knicknamed it booby cancer and have tried very hard to keep seeing the funny side in it all. It's either laugh or cry and we chose laugh.

Good luck hope u kick that booby cancer to the curb

  • I cried briefly the day I was told that it pretty much was cancer and was sent off for core biopsies and mammograms but I haven't since then. I've been really optimistic and just looking forward to starting treatment. My partner seemed to be finding it harder than I was so I thought that maybe it would be healthy for me to have a bit of a cry... I tried but ended up laughing at myself!! I think for me the worst part is the diagnosis and the unknown. I have been given so much great information so I don't feel afraid any more... Now I just have to get on with treatment and deal with the side effects as they arise.

  • Hi

I cried for a month as I told my family and friends - we cried together! I think it means they care for us, and  its a scary diagnosis. Just go with the emotions of how you are feeling.

  • I can remember comforting my family & friends when I told them. I actually felt terrible for upsetting them! I did have some good cries when I was alone. I'm sure that the people who love us are just upset for us. Not so strange, I guess, all the best for your op.

  • I know exactly what you mean. I have only just been diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer this past week & have yet to cry. I am scheduled to have a full mastectomy on 25 February and wonder if that is the day it will finally hit me. When I speak to family and friends I find myself comforting them!
