Day 1 post Chemo

Hi all

What a busy couple of weeks it's been. Tuesday (yesterday) was first chemo, AC and Paclitaxel/Taxol. Herceptin negative confirmed.

Had a long standing pre Christmas hair appointment whip off my boring bob, to be replaced by a pixie cut which I quite like. Great for swimming when I take it up again. Visited my dear (very young) dentist who gave me excellent mouth care advice. Wig, hat and scarf shopping Monday in Melbourne (Ringwood East) at Head Components.

I hope to keep trundling along OK as things continue. Went for walks both days, listening to the body, came home and did my arm exercises with Pink Pilates CD.

I really don't know what to expect with chemo, radiation and reconstruction. Even though I did very well in my exams, I've turned down the opportunity for a fourth year in psychology, thinking that there'll be a fair amount of down time next year, also I have to go a bit Tiger Mom on my VCE boy (a bit difficult at this stage but better we change the home routine a little and have less hassles).

All the best ladies. I read your stories and am humbled, inspired and moved.

  • I like your positive attitude and find it encouraging.  I haven't started chemo yet and am busy doing my excercises given to me while I was in hospital  but must check out my Pilates DVD like you.

The advise from the other ladies about listening to your body sounds very wise and I know that exercise is very important.

Yes, it is disappointing to be starting this journey so close to Christmas but I am grateful that we will be keeping it very simple and relaxing.

Best wishes to you and I look forward to following your news in the future.

    Love Joy xx

  • It is so true, just listen to your body,we are all different.I am 4 days after last chemo today, and just tonight I can't eat what I normally would, and I am starting to feel very flat. The same as last cycle, but a couple,of days earlier.Once you know what to expect,it is kind of like a routine.Just take it easy, and before you know it,you will be feeling great again and ready for the next one!!!Best wishes. xoxoxRobyn
