Date for radiation

I now have my starting dates for radiation. The first appointment to set everything up is next Tuesday and then start the daily session on the 26th October so it will be all over a few weeks before christmas which will be a great christmas present.

Love to all  nellsbell

  • I had my ovaries removed just over 3 years ago because I couldn't stand the hormonal swings anymore and then I was having yearly implants. The next implant was due right when I got my diagnosis so of course I didn't have it done. I still have a bit of oestrogen left in my system so I hope by the time I start the tamoxifen most of it will be gone. My daughters sister inlaw was diagnosed this year and had a mastectomy and no chemo or radiation but had to start on tamoxifen. She said that she stopped taking it because of being always hot and cold and very cranky. I said to her "welcome to menopause". I hope she goes back on it because of the nature of her cancer.

It was funny at radiation today because I wore my wig and they kept comming out to get me and then walked back in because they didn't reconize me. I finally had to go and tell them it was me.

    Cheers again Nellsbell

  • Hi Jo

What did they say about the pressure on the chest wall ? Is it a common thing?I have had just a slight feeling of pressure but didn't think it might be because of the radiation.

Were you on any HRT before you were diagnosed and if so how long. I am hoping that because I was on it for around 5 years I might not be as affected. One can only hope.I decided not to start it till I had finished radiation as I thought it would be too much at once.

You have to be in the right head space before starting a diet and I must have been. I used weight watchers points and keep a daily diary of what I was eating , that way I was less likely to cheat and once I had written it down thats what I ate. You will know when you can cope with being on a diet.

  • Yeah its easy as with radiation isn't it.

I am only a little red but am feeling lots of pressure on my chest wall and swelling at the side of my boob  area after treatment in the last couple of sessions. You really notice it when you put the arm down. I think the worse thing with this radiation is just the daily routine of going their and probably the tiredness.

Good luck with your weight loss , you have done so well so far. I need to start and lose mine in the coming weeks .

I  have been on tamoxifin and zoladex injections since August. and I am so over it, the hot flushes and sweating is horrible, i cant stand it. Went to specialist today for some help with the hot flushes and sweating.

    Cheers Joxx

  • Hi from nellsbell

I am nearly half way through my radiation and not having any problems so far. I love marking the appointments off my list.

I started a diet 4 weeks ago and I have lost 5 kilos already. I thought it would be alot harder to get rid of but I have been very determined to sift the weight. I only have around another 4 to go. I am also back into my exercising and am nearly up to the level I was at before all the treatment.

When the radiation is finished I will be starting Tamoxifin which I am not looking forward to and hope I won't have too many side effects.

    Cheers from Nellsbell

  • Hi Helen

  • We will both be finishing radiation around the same time. How good is that !

    Cheers Helen

  • Thanks Josie ,that was a good hint. I was planning to wear old ones because of the creams to help with the burning but I didn't think about the ink stains. It sooo good to think it will be over by Christmas.

    Cheers Helen xx

  • Dear Nellsbell, Here's a 'hint' for radiation therapy...............Dont wear your good bras - they have to 'draw on you' and the stuff really gets every where.....its a bit of a sod to wash out too - so be prepared to sport a very 'colourful chest!' - after what you have been through already, it's a 'walk in the park' by comparison x x x Josie
