COVID Anti virals

Hi all
Was wondering if anyone knew if have been treated for BC and now on tamoxifen if we qualify for PBS funded Covid anti viral. I've asked my pharmacist and they don't think so unless less than 3months post treatment (chemo, rad).
  • Antiviral use also depends on other medication you may be taking. The advice is to talk to your GP, work out what you can and can’t take and then you can ring for a prescription if and when needed.
  • Re anti viral meds. They are not for everyone so best talk to your oncologist. My physio who is 61 and no health issues got covid. Her husband is a GP and had some anti viral meds which were about to expire so he gave them to her. It didn't help and after 2 doses she was sicker than without the antivirals so she had to stop taking them. Not saying you shouldn't have them but best to check with your oncologist.

  • Thanks Arpie, that's very helpful  I'm not positive but cases are increasing.
  • Maybe Check with your Onc @Aska ..... if you've already tested positive, the earlier you have the Anti Virals, the better ....  even if you have to pay for it  :(

I know there are quite a few cases in our area again, so I still wear a mask at the local shops .... yeah, daggy looking, I know!  ;)

Here is what the Gov Sheet says (within 3 months of completing treatment is mentioned in the 18 Years or Older group further down .....)

Tho I would have thought that our AIs might put us into the immunocrompromised 'group' (as mentioned in the Over 18s ....) 'OR OLDER' covers ALL of us too??  And here is the '3 month limit' for chemo/Rads ..

    All the best
