Cording

I have cording under arm. I was wondered why it was feeling tighter each day!  Hadn't been able to get into the Physio (booked out). When I saw my Surgeon yesterday she pointed it out and booked me in for a nice early one at 8.15am.  Im getting soft!  We do live a good distance out of Launceston.  

I have also had a friend who was trying to talk me into alternative treatments and natural therapies. My brother read that on Facebook what I was thinking of doing and warned me off. The doctor who had recommended using the alternative treatments had been charged with manslaughter, and because my brother is a Doctor of medicine, I agreed to listen to him instead.  Close call....

Also I have had a few people mention cold caps, to stop hair loss, has anyone tried those???  Did it work? Does everyone lose their hair with chemo??

    Hi Bel I have just finished chemo I used the penguin cold cap system and I still have most of my hair. There are a couple of pink skin areas but the rest of my hair covers it. It is like the worst icecream headache for 3-5 min and the caps are changed every35 min. I warmed tissues and placed them on my forehead and temples. Had warmed blankets - very comforting - bless my nurses - I had shoulder length hair I did loose a lot the first two chemos I cut it shortish then the loss all but stopped. I think washing every morning and night with non chemical shampoo Gently no rubbing keeps the eliminated chemicals through scalp doing further damage I didn't the first two chemos and that's when I had most hair loss- can,t offer any science it's just what I think may have helped me. I also ground Kombu - seaweed-in a coffee grinder and took quarter teaspoon daily ( never heating as that destroys benefit) I believe it strengthens hair nails and provides a lot of protective benefits - always wore a hat throughout treatment. I drank 4 litres water at least for 8-10 days until all meds out of system I thought the gloves were more painful !I wish you well with your treatments stay strong and research - good luck

    Hi Bel,

    My cording went away by itself without any treatment even though I had shoulder restriction from mets in shoulder.

    Hi Bel.. I too have cording, and live just outside of Launceston. Marlene, at In Balance, is about the only physio that deals with cording in Launceston, ( I believe). Ive had some greats results, but found its best to book three or four appointments in advance, as she is pretty hard to get into. Good luck with it all. Jo

    Hi Bel, I had a bit of cording and it has gone away. Don't know if that's what always happens but hopefully it will for you too. My view on cancer treatment is that this disease is so insidious and potentially deadly that we can't afford to muck around with alternative (which basically means unproven) treatments. That's not to say that complimentry therapies - like good nutrition, exercise, meditation etc - aren't helpful in getting your mind and body in the best shape to help beat the cancer. Never heard of this bi-carb treatment though. I had cold gloves with my chemo which were supposed to protect the finger nails. Don't know if it made much difference. They didn't fall off or anything but did develop ridges. Janet :)
