Colouring my Hair?

Hello Everyone, I have a quick question, my hair is starting to grow back and is very grey, Ah some people say it looks good while I believe for me Im too young to do grey, so I would really appreciate any advice on hair colour and what is recommended (if anything).  I do worry about hair colour, but then I think to myself I had chemo! Wil check in later and introduce myself properly. Thanks to all you amazing Warriors! ruby2

  • Look for colour low in chemicals there are a few out there. Also make sure you do at least 2 patch tests as be careful of a reaction. I think foils ,tips a better option as less chemical on the scalp to start with. Deb
  • My hair had been dyed for about 15 years before I lost it all. When it grew back I asked my Onc (very....no nonsense !!)  when can I dye my hair & she just looked at me & said whenever I want but I might want to wait till the hairdresser can get hold of it. I have found it doesn't hold the dye as well as it used to......ie it fades out after 5-6 weeks (yes I know some people have it done more often than that  ! ) ......it fades back to the colour we first dyed it, we started lighter to see how it was going to go. It is certainly a lot thinner than it used to be, it had to be thinned heaps before but not at all now .

  • Hey Ruby2

A big welcome to this site and so glad you found us.

Mmmmmmmm I found losing my hair was okay and enjoyed when it was growing back.  It did come back grey unfortunately of which I knew I had some greys before but no idea how many as it was always coloured.

I have gone for quite a long time following my chemo with grey hair and hubby wanted me to keep it grey (probably thinking of the savings on hairdresser costs hee hee).  In the end the vanity won out and I got sick of looking in the mirror and going oh god I look just like my mother did when she passed away and she was 85 with still a full head of hair but it was curly and grey.

I finished my chemc approx July 2012 so it has taken me all this time to even consider getting tips in my hair. It has definitely dried my hair out.  I have always used natural shampoos/conditioners and hairspray but I just had enough one day and decided to do it.  Big big decision.

Like Robyn said they do suggest vegetable based products.

Hope we are able to help you further with the help from our other beautiful pink sisters on here.

    Luv always, Mich xoxoxox

  • Hello:) From what I know, new hair is very fragile,so if you are going to color it,it is best to ask the hairdresser for a vegetable based dye, rather than ammonia. At least this is what I have read.I know we have a couple of hairdressers on this network,so maybe they will give some good advice.Cheers Robyn.
