Chemo nearly finished - what next?

I only have 2 more chemo sessions left and have no idea what is happening next? I have had a lumpectomy and am triple negative. I am currently waiting on my gene test results but feel that i should probably have a double mastectomy no matter what the result is. My issue is that no health professional is even talking to me about what is happening next. Am i being pushy to ask to discuss options even before gene test results come back?

  • You would see your Oncologist by your last infusion i'd imagine?? thats when they should tell you what is next, they are the one you need to speak with. Once I'd done 4 FEC 12 Taxol on the last infusion, I saw my Oncologist and he made an appt for 6 weeks to let me recover a little and then was putting me on Arimidex from that point. He also talked of a Mastectomy at that point, which I was told a year earlier wasn't required but he feels now is. So absolutely ask, for a complete picture they do need your Gene results and I dont think they'd do surgery without knowing that first. Not pushy at all!!! in fact I'd call your Oncologist or email and ask now explain that youre nearing the end of Chemo and wanting to know what's next as you are anxious. This is about you, you have decisions to make, one thing Ive learned through 5years of this is Im no longer backwards about coming forward and I am so much more relaxed when I know talking with the Professionals.
