Soda water is a great fix for birdcage mouth. Hold it in your mouth until it stops fizzing, swish it around, spit it out and repeat. Mouthwashes can be too harsh, though if you feel really brave a bit later in the cycle and have no broken skin, try brushing your teeth using soda water with your toothpaste. That will definitely bubble off anything that can be bubbled off.
The fuzzy grey tongue doesn't necessarily mean you have thrush, it may be just dead taste buds. I had pretty much everything except oral thrush--which was surprising since I get box rot every time I take antibiotics.
